Making a hat step by step

For the next operation you will need a glue gun. We wait until it warms up and begin gluing it. We use an oven mitt or cloth and never hold it with our hands. When gluing the circle with fabric, make sure that it is evenly distributed so that it is not wrinkled, so that the fabric does not give a wave.
We remove the excess raincoat by cutting it evenly into strips. Cut it out and, without reaching the edge of the cardboard, let the fabric spread evenly, the main thing is not to go over the edge, it’s all visible from the outside.
We sew the hat cap to the edges of the cardboard using a regular seam and then carefully, beautifully take matching threads and sew the main part with a hidden seam.
We sew the baseball cap to the cardboard, decide for yourself whether you will make elastic bands. Sewed on the cap. We seal the holes so that the padding polyester does not fall out. To do this, I decided to glue it due to lack of time, and quickly grabbed it.

We had a matinee in our kindergarten, in which the girls were supposed to be flowers and the boys were supposed to be mushrooms. So, the parents of their sons needed to build a mushroom hat for their baby. The simplest and least expensive way is to make a mushroom out of paper. So, what things are needed to make a mushroom cap?
- Whatman
- Scissors
- Glue (you can use any one, but I prefer the “Crystal” moment, because it grabs any material very firmly and quickly, plus it is transparent, that is, the excess that comes out will not be visible).
- Red paint (I took gouache)
- Wide brush (I painted with a construction brush - it’s wide enough and comfortable, and I didn’t have to spend any money).
- Sintepon (optional)
- A hat elastic band (I bought it once, it still helps me out; alternatively, you can do without it, replacing it with two ties).
The first problem I encountered was how to draw a circle without a compass? The circle is quite large, about 50 centimeters in diameter. I would hardly have been able to handle such a compass, and I didn’t have one at home. Therefore, if you want to draw an even circle without a compass, you will need:
- Pin
- Thread
- Pencil
The radius of the fungus is 25 centimeters. Cut the thread 10 centimeters longer. At one end, attach the thread to a pin, and at the other to a pencil.
Place the pin in the center (you can stick it in, you can hold it with your fingers). Hold the pencil strictly vertically, that is, perpendicular to the Whatman paper.

You can cut one radius and bend the mushroom as needed. And only then mark the line of the second cutout, forgetting about the hem for gluing. You should not make the cutout sector too small - the fungus will appear flat. If you make the cutout too large, you will end up with a cap, not a fungus. Glue the fungus together and give the glue time to dry thoroughly. Then you will need to figure out how to keep the mushroom hat on the child’s head. I prefer hat elastic. Try on your child to see how much elastic is needed. Also cut off 10 centimeters more. I was faced with a whole dilemma about how to attach the hat elastic to the cap. If you make banal knots at the ends of the elastic, they will still cut through the Whatman paper sooner or later. Despite the fact that whatman paper is quite thick, it is paper anyway. And from the friction of the rope, the edges will begin to cut through. I didn’t want to upset the child with a torn fungus and a flying tie. And this is what I came up with.
I inserted the ropes into the mushroom hat from both sides and tied a kind of figure eights from the rope at the ends.
I straightened them out well. I cut out rectangles from paper and glued our eights. Now the tips will hold tightly and will not cut through the paper.
To be even more reliable, we make a “crown” like this around the circumference of the child’s head.
First, cut out a strip from whatman paper. Measure around the child's head and glue it together. Cut a fringe at the end. Glue it from the inside to the mushroom cap.
Now the hat will definitely not fall off!
You can also attach a padding polyester backing to the fungus from the inside to make it look more interesting. But if you don’t have padding polyester at hand, then don’t worry and skip this point. And whoever has it, cut out a padding polyester strip about five centimeters wide around the circumference of your fungus. Lubricate the fungus from the inside with glue and glue the padding polyester. Then start painting. Don’t even think about painting whatman paper until you have glued it together, attached ties and padding!!! Since pre-painted Whatman paper will stick and stain your fingers, the paint will smear, and you will end up with gouache on your hands. The snow-white synthetic padding will remain covered in red stains and fingerprints!
Color the fungus to suit your taste.
We chose fly agaric. It is bright, beautiful and looks unusual. In addition, white specks can be used to cover the places where the ends of the elastic are attached. If you make the mushroom cap brown, you can stick leaves or butterflies with beetles on the unsightly joints. When working with paint, do not pour too much water into the glass. Otherwise it will take a lot more paint. It is convenient to first draw paint around the very edge of the mushroom from the bottom perimeter, and then paint from the top down. It will turn out very smooth. Did you paint it? Give the mushroom time to dry.
Then cut out white specks for fly agaric, 5-7 centimeters in diameter, from the remains of whatman paper. You can do it bigger. To your taste! This time, in order to draw circles without using a compass, I used the upside-down neck of a glass.
Don't forget to glue them to the places where the hat elastic is attached.
All! The mushroom hat is ready.
