How to tie a beautiful bow on a baby envelope

DIY ribbon for newborn baby envelope

Beautiful and unusual
Below are videos and photos with detailed master classes on creating several types of bows. Each master class tells how to make kanzashi flowers, bows from ribbons or with an elastic band, and fabric products.

Japanese technology

This is a decoration made using Japanese technology. To make a lush kanzashi bow with your own hands, you need to be careful and attentive. This bow is a flower whose petals are made of ribbons. For this purpose, the tape is first cut into strips.

It's very fast and easy

If there is no time or opportunity to create complex decorations, a simple bow is used for newborn envelopes. A satin ribbon is a standard and stylish decoration, and many people have been able to tie bows since childhood.

Fabric bow

There are many types of fabric

It is an original and stylish bow that can be tied on an envelope or decorated with a stroller. Such products are beneficial because your imagination is limited only by the variety of fabrics that you want to purchase.

This fabric decoration looks original from scraps left over after making an envelope for a newborn. This creates a stylish set for discharge.

There are master classes that will teach you how to make different types of bows and ribbons using creative elements. For example, ribbons are decorated with embroidery and rhinestones, and a fabric heart is placed in the center of the bow. It is made using fleece.

Bow with elastic band

To make the decoration easy to attach, you can sew an elastic band for it. For this purpose, an ordinary elastic band of sufficient length is covered with a satin ribbon or fabric in the color of the bow or a suitable color combination, and then stitched on both sides of the elastic. This option is convenient because the bow is simply attached to the elastic band.

They do not need to tie envelopes or a blanket, it will not be too tight or loose, tied in a hurry, because the elastic is made in advance. Such products look beautiful and neat. You can attach a large bow made of ribbons, fabric or kanzashi flowers to the elastic band.

Bow on a blanket

Convenient in the cold season

If you have prepared not a corner, but a baby blanket for discharge to the maternity hospital, then it is more convenient to use a decoration with an elastic band. A warm blanket is used instead of an envelope if the newborn was born in the cold season. To prevent the baby from catching a cold, he is dressed in overalls and wrapped in a blanket.

You can attach a lush bow made of ribbons or fabric to the blanket.

A creative person can create clothes and crafts for a child’s discharge with his own hands. To do this you will need the following materials:

  • satin ribbon of a light shade you like, 2-3 centimeters wide and at least 4 meters long;
  • similar tape, but darker in tone;
  • rhinestones or beads of a suitable color;
  • lighter or candle;
  • lace;
  • strong thread and needle, or glue.

Manufacturing stages:

  1. Cut the light ribbon into pieces 20 cm long, and the dark ribbon into elements 17 cm long. The first will be the bottom layer of the bow petals, the second will be the top layer.
  2. Each piece is folded in half to form a petal. Then the petals are attached with thread or glue, four in a cross, and two “crosses” are folded together to form flowers of eight petals.
  3. The resulting two flowers are superimposed on each other so that the edges of the lower light one protrude evenly from under the edges of the upper one.
  4. A thin strip of lace is folded into a figure eight and attached to the center of the flower. You can make 2 stripes, creating a third delicate layer of petals of a multi-layer bow flower.
  5. From the remains of the light ribbon, 6 wedge-shaped petals are folded, and the resulting flower is attached to the top of the lace. To fold such a petal, a piece of thin tape, 2 centimeters long, is folded diagonally, and then the tips are applied to each other. If desired, the petals can simply be cut with scissors to create an oval shape by melting the edges of the ribbon with a match.
  6. The last stage is decorating the center of the flower with beads or rhinestones. You can decorate the petals of the first and second layers of the flower with glitter, then the bow will turn out even more elegant.

Using ribbon from a bow

A 2 meter long satin ribbon, which remains after making the bow, can be used to decorate the envelope. If the bow is two-color, then two bows of the second color are attached to the edges of the ribbon, after which the product is decorated with beads, rhinestones and seed beads.

An excellent option for discharge from the maternity hospital is a blanket envelope. Subsequently, it can be used as a blanket for a crib or stroller.

To sew such an envelope we will need: 2 types of cotton fabric, padding polyester (the density of padding polyester depends on the season for which the envelope is sewn), lace. Instead of padding polyester, alpolux or sheet holofiber are also suitable.

We cut out squares of fabric and padding polyester, measuring 100x100 cm.

First, we take a square of fabric for the front side of the envelope and padding polyester and pin them together.

Then we sew several lines on the machine diagonally or in the form of some kind of pattern, connecting the fabric and padding polyester together.

We sew lace to the edges of this square, as shown in the photo.

Now we place the second square of fabric with the right sides facing each other and sew along the entire edge, sewing together all the layers (fabric, lace, fabric, padding), leaving about 10 cm unstitched.

Through this hole we turn the blanket envelope right side out.

We manually sew up the hole through which we turned it inside out.

It turns out to be such a blanket-envelope for newborns when they are discharged from the maternity hospital.

You can sew a bow like this with an elastic band to it (the master class will be in the next article within 2-3 days).

For a boy, you can sew an envelope without lace. I sewed the bow without holofiber, like a bow tie.

In such a blanket-envelope your baby will be soft, warm and cozy. See the link for how to sew a transforming envelope.

For summer discharge from the maternity hospital and summer walks with the baby, a light and soft blanket envelope is perfect, one side of which is made of 100% cotton, and the other is made of warm and soft velsoft (plush, velor are also suitable).

Materials for blanket blanket

So, from both types of fabric we cut out 100x100 cm squares, rounding the corners using a pattern or improvised means (for example, a plate).

We place the fabric on top of each other with the right side inward and fasten the edges with pins (needles).

We fasten the edges of the blanket with pins

We sew on a machine at a distance of 1.5 cm from the edge, leaving about 15 cm unstitched, so that we can then turn the blanket right side out.

Leave it a little unstitched

In the corners that we made rounded, we make a small cut (so that when we turn the blanket right side out, everything will be even and neat).

Cutting the edges

We turn the blanket right side out and sew up the hole through which we turned it inside out. Then, from the front side, we sew the entire blanket along the edges at a distance of 2-3 cm.

We are expecting a new addition to our family and I decided to sew a warm autumn discharge envelope for the newborn myself. Sewing such an envelope is quite simple, you just need to cut out the desired shape from the fabric, sew zippers on the sides and make a hood. Having chosen the color you like, you can sew such an envelope yourself in a couple of evenings.

Discharge envelope for newborn

To make such an envelope we will need: fabric for the top layer (I used raincoat fabric, it doesn’t blow), padding polyester (insulation), warm fabric for the inner layer (I used velsoft, very soft and pleasant to the touch), 2 zippers 50-60 long cm, Velcro. I bought fabric in 0.5 m pieces with a width of 1.5 m.

From all three layers we cut out identical parts according to this pattern; you don’t have to cut off the sides at the top (you’ll get an envelope measuring approximately 40x70(75)cm).

Lay out the fabric in order (insulation in the middle).

Layers of fabric for the envelope

Along the edges we sew together a layer of insulation and raincoat fabric (this will make it easier to sew in a zipper).

Then we sew a zipper between the inner and outer layers, bending the edges inward.

Sew the remaining fabric along the sides, folding the edges. We sew the hood by bending the edges of the top into a triangle (first one and then the other layer), you can cut off the resulting upper corner of the hood. When unfolded, our envelope looks like this.

Once zipped up, it looks like this.

Now we can improve our envelope a little. We sew Velcro in the appropriate places.

You can make a hood with a tightening rope, this will better protect the baby from the wind. I tied the rope myself, but you can use lace or other rope.
