Are you experiencing vision problems? Fragile frames often break, and it’s not always possible to buy a suitable new one? Are you ready to try your hand at doing it yourself? We'll show you how to do it.
Before you start work, you need to think through everything thoroughly and prepare. No soldering or complicated tools are needed. To get started you will need
:
- a sheet of thick paper;
- pencil;
- stationery scissors;
- ruler;
- scotch;
- metal scissors;
- three coils of wire of different thicknesses: 1.2 mm, 0.8 mm, 0.3 mm (0.2 mm).
How to fix a broken shackle
Temples and temples break if they do not have a metal rod. The easiest way is to replace the broken part completely. If the store does not have the appropriate spare part, and the bow is made of thick plastic, it can be repaired by connecting the break using a thread corset:
- Degrease the plastic at the fracture site;
- Apply glue;
- Connect the ends of the parts;
- Remove any excess glue and let it dry;
- Using a drill with a thin drill, drill two holes in the places where the breakage occurred;
- Insert a regular thread, folded in half, into one hole, threading it into a needle;
- Pull the thread through the second hole, then back into the first;
- Repeat several times, as far as the width of the holes allows (the thread must be pulled tightly);
- Move the ends of the threads in different directions and temporarily secure one of them with tape so that it does not interfere;
- Coat the other end with glue, and wind it, turn by turn, over the gluing area at a slight angle;
- Repeat with the other end of the thread, winding it over the first with a tilt in the other direction (winding in a cross makes the joint stronger);
- Make several windings, one on top of the other, soaking each layer with glue.
If the hinge that attaches the bow to the frame is broken, you will need tweezers, a soldering iron, a needle and a piece of copper or steel wire to fix the situation. The proposed repair method is suitable for models without flex:
- Remove any remaining connection from the frame by heating the metal parts with a soldering iron;
- Use a needle to clean the hole left by the hinge and fill it with epoxy resin;
- Make a small loop out of the wire and insert it into the hole;
- Connect the temple to the frame with a screw.
In most modern models, the temple is attached to the frame using flex - a spring mechanism that allows you to bend the temple at an angle of more than 90 degrees. This fragile part often breaks and cannot be repaired, so in order to repair the glasses, you will have to purchase a new mechanism.
Flex replacement:
- Drill out the fixed part of the flex with a drill;
- Pull out the retaining ring with the spring and rod using a pin;
- Install the new Flex, following the instructions included with it.
Replacing a flex is not an easy job, requiring pinpoint precision of movements, good vision, the availability of spare parts and special tools. Therefore, in case of breakdowns of this type, it is better to contact a repair shop. It is optimal if she specializes in repairing glasses from a specific manufacturer.
Repairing glasses frames
If the part of the plastic frame surrounding the glass is broken, the problem can be fixed as follows:
- Heat a nichrome or thin steel wire over a fire (you can use a small paper clip);
- Insert the wire into the plastic on one side of the break;
- Cut the wire to the desired length;
- Heat a sewing needle over a fire, holding it in pliers;
- Use a needle to make a hole in the plastic on the other side of the connector;
- Fill the hole with glue;
- Insert the second end of the wire into the hole;
- Connect both parts of the break, not forgetting to first insert the fallen lens;
- Lubricate the outside of the crack with epoxy;
- When the glue dries, sand the crack with a file.
If you simply glue the frame with epoxy, the repair will not last long. The wire inserted inside acts as a skeleton. After such repairs, the frame can last for many more years, although it will lose its presentable appearance.
A broken glasses bridge can be repaired using the methods described above:
- With wire installation;
- With a corset made of threads.
The connection looks more neat using two safety pins with cut off heads:
- Heat water to boiling in a small saucepan;
- Dip one part of the broken glasses into the water and hold until the plastic softens (do not hold the frame directly over the fire).
- Insert a pin;
- Repeat with the second part of the frame;
- Connect both parts while they are still hot.
Repairing the frame on a fishing line is carried out as follows:
- Remove the old fishing line, helping yourself with a needle;
- Take new fishing line;
- There are four holes on the frame (2 each on the right and left) - thread the fishing line into the upper hole on the outside of the frame by 2 mm;
- Insert the second end of the fishing line into the lower hole;
- Pull the line to the second part of the frame and repeat the operation, but start from the bottom hole;
- Adjust the tension of the fishing line so that the lens can fit onto it;
- Cut off the excess line, leaving 2 mm free at both ends;
- Insert the frame, helping yourself with the tape, first into the nose, then into the temple and into the top;
- Tuck the loose ends of the fishing line into the metal part of the frame.
First international exhibition
From the very beginning, Fedor and Artem wanted to sell glasses in other countries through eBay and Etsy. The guys registered on these sites in 2014, but foreigners did not snap up the “Log”. It is expensive to deliver single international orders from Russia, and you cannot make a return.
To develop sales, Fedor and Artem went to European optics exhibitions.
In February 2020, entrepreneurs registered at Mido in Milan as visitors. At the exhibition, the guys realized that what matters to buyers is not the size of the manufacturing company, but the design and presentation. Our heroes decided that even a small Siberian brand would have a place on the international market.
Returning home, Fedor and Artem contacted the Business Development Agency. The authorities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory created this organization to support small and medium-sized companies. Once a year, the agency pays for participation in international exhibitions. So the guys saved 5 thousand euros by participating in the Silmo exhibition in Paris in September 2016.
5000 €
It is worth participating in the Silmo exhibition in Paris. Thanks to the Business Development Agency, the guys participated in the exhibition for free
The fee included the cheapest stand - a 3x4 meter piece of flooring. Additionally, the organizers asked to pay 5-10 thousand euros for the construction of the stand. Fedor and Artem rented a car, bought plywood for 700 euros at Leroy Merlin, and furniture and lamps at Ikea.
We brought the rest with us: screwdrivers, pine cones, pieces of wood and photographs for decoration, and, of course, glasses. Artem came up with the design of the stand, and the guys assembled everything themselves.
Visitors came up and said that everything was beautiful, but they never bought anything. It turned out that the guys did not figure out where it was better to stand. They were placed in a pavilion with a Chinese mass market, and potential clients simply did not make it to the stand.
Which glasses can't be repaired?
Glasses with flex lenses cannot be repaired if the necessary spare parts cannot be found. In this case, you will have to buy a new shackle to replace the broken one.
Glasses with metal frames cannot be repaired if there are no tools and materials for welding. The metal can be soldered, but the frame will lose its beauty and strength, and the glasses will become fragile. It's better to just buy new ones.
There are videos on the Internet dedicated to removing scratches from lenses. Thinking that scratched glass can be polished or otherwise restored is a dangerous misconception. The glass can only be replaced. Any grinding changes the optical power of the lens, which affects vision. If you fill the scratch with any substance, the glass will lose its transparency, which will also affect the ability to see.
In most cases, glasses can be repaired in 10-15 minutes by picking up a new screw to replace the one that fell out, or by fixing a broken frame with glue. If you don’t know how to fix the damage, but don’t want to buy new glasses, contact an optician - a specialist will replace the old lenses with a new frame.
Production
The first glasses were made on a laser machine, but the laser has limitations, which is why the guys switched to a milling machine. The craftsmen do most of the operations manually.
In the spring of 2020, an order for $7,000 came from a wholesaler from Azerbaijan. To produce this batch, Fedor and Artem rebuilt production. Before this, the workshop made up to 20 glasses a week: it couldn’t work anymore.
The guys moved to a room with an area of 50 m². They hired two more masters. In a month they made more than 200 points. Later, a second floor of 35 m² was built in the new workshop, where an office was located.
Restoration of screw fastening
The main structural element that holds the temples and frames together is a hinge unit, which can have two designs.
In one of them, the bow is attached using a conventional screw connection. A more complex design is the design, in which a special spring-loaded mechanism called a flex is used for fastening.
In the simplest case, when the malfunction is associated with unscrewing a screw from the fastening unit, it is enough to simply return it to its place using a clock screwdriver or a well-sharpened knife. No soldering is needed here.
Clients and promotion
Entrepreneurs thought that wooden glasses were a hipster accessory for young people. Then they realized that the products were not inferior to factory ones, and the design suited everyone.
In Russia and Europe they buy different models. Sunglasses are popular in Russia, they are cheaper to produce and do not require certification. In Europe, entrepreneurs sell optical frames better – they don’t require licenses there.
European buyers are willing to pay more for glasses than Russian ones, and distributors have asked to raise recommended retail prices to 140-300 euros per frame. Clients in the salon saw this price, and then went to the site and found another, lower one - converted from the ruble price. Entrepreneurs did not want to interfere with wholesalers and closed sales abroad through the website.
To promote their product, the guys organize sweepstakes on social networks and post photos of stars wearing “Log” glasses. When concerts were held in Krasnoyarsk, Fedor and Artem negotiated with the organizers, caught the artists at hotels or at the airport to give glasses and take a photo. The musicians did not refuse. Shnur and Limp Bizkit starred in “Log” glasses. Die Antwoord themselves posted on Instagram about a gift from Siberia.
Glasses with flexes
If there is a flex, the repair of glasses becomes significantly more complicated, since the fixing screw in this case passes through the movable bar, and when it falls out, it is pulled into the cavity behind the ear.
In this case, two mounting holes that coincide in the normal state, after this breakdown, due to the action of the spring, lose alignment, so that the screw cannot be returned to its place. The only possible way out of this situation is to move the bar back into place and screw the mounting screw into the hole.
To return the bar, the easiest way is to use an awl or a needle, which allows you to catch on a small protrusion extending beyond the temple of the glasses. To carry out this operation, two hands are usually not enough, so you will need either outside help or a small vice (clamp).
In the second case, the temple body is first clamped, after which you can try to screw the screw into place. In the case when the material of the earhooks is very soft, it is advisable to pad them with a piece of leather.
If the screw is damaged or lost, it can be replaced with any suitable size and thread. If the diameter does not match, it is screwed with force into the mounting hole, thereby cutting a new thread. You can also use a piece of copper wire of a suitable cross-section, which, after installation in the hole, is riveted on both sides.
Flex repair
For some glasses, the ear hook (arm) breaks at the point where the hinge is attached to the flex itself, which forces you to choose one of two solutions: complete replacement or repair. Since this part can only be changed together with the glasses, let’s look at the structure of the unit and the procedure for restoring it in more detail.
A careful study of the design shows that at the end of the temple there is a rectangular groove into which a steel strip about 1 mm thick fits. It usually breaks when this part of the glasses is damaged and needs repair.
A possible option for restoring it is to connect it in the broken place using a rivet.
As such a part, you can use a brass sewing pin with a head about a millimeter in diameter, for which you need to drill holes in the parts to be connected. When marking, one of them is marked in the center of the ear hook (arm) so that it coincides with the center line of the strip fixed in the hinge. Only after attaching this part will it be possible to clearly mark and then drill holes in both halves being connected.
Launch
Without your own equipment, making prototypes is expensive: you had to wait for the laser to become free. At the beginning of 2014, the guys realized that they needed their own workshop and laser.
Through the laser forum, Fedor and Artem went to a Chinese factory and ordered a laser machine. With delivery it cost 300 thousand rubles. Part of the money was taken from proceeds from New Year's sales, and the rest from personal savings. The delivery of the equipment took two months.
At the same time, we found space for a workshop - a 20 m² room in a former factory. A month's rent cost 8 thousand rubles. The guys agreed with the landlord to pay in cash. They didn’t have a legal entity yet.
In the evenings on weekdays and on weekends, Fedor and Artem made repairs: they tore off the suspended ceiling and wallpaper, covered the interfering pipes with a podium made of plywood, and installed an exhaust hood. 20 thousand rubles were spent on materials. The renovation was completed in February. At the same time the laser arrived.
The entrepreneurs modified the packaging: a fabric bag with glasses was placed in a micro-corrugated cardboard box. This packaging cardboard is not sold at retail in Krasnoyarsk. The guys got individual sheets from printing houses through friends, and then ordered 100 pieces from a factory in Abakan for 50 rubles per square meter.
In April, the guys created the first frame for sale in their new workshop. A freelancer friend made a website for 10 thousand rubles. By summer, the collection was photographed and glasses began to be sold at a price of 4 thousand rubles apiece. We promoted the site through social networks ourselves, without investing money in it.
Lens mount
In some models of glasses, the lenses have a rigid mount in half the rim, and their open part is held in the frame by a fishing line recessed in a special groove. This method of fixing the lenses makes the glasses more elegant in appearance and comfortable to wear by reducing the weight of the frame.
But all these advantages come at the cost of the inconvenience that they can easily break if neglected. Here, just like when repairing flexes, the following two options are possible:
- if the lens jumps out of the mount, but the fishing line remains in its place, due to its elasticity, the optical element of the glasses can be easily installed in its previous position;
- in a situation where the fishing line has completely fallen off the frame, it will need to be completely replaced.
In the latter case, you should not be upset and immediately contact the workshop, since such a malfunction can easily be fixed with your own hands. This problem can be solved with the help of a strong fishing line with a cross-section of 0.8 mm, from a skein of which a piece of approximately ten centimeters in length is cut.
After removing the old line, you should make sure that the ends of the new piece easily fit into the fixing holes, and if not, then sharpen them a little (cut along an oblique line). If in this case the fishing line does not fit into the holes, it is necessary to expand them in some way (sometimes you even have to drill out this part of the fastening).
After the ends are inserted into the holes, and the size is measured strictly along the length of the arc of the lens, you should heat the ends with a soldering iron, then securely fix the optics in the frame. This is a case of using soldering to repair glasses.
If the frame is metal and the metal of the lens holder has broken, then soldering can be used for repair. The holder is soldered using rosin as a flux (for stainless steel and steel, zinc chloride is better), and the solder is chosen either tin-lead or in accordance with the characteristics of the metal of the frame.
Tree
Not every type of wood is suitable for framing. Hardwoods are harder, denser and easier to process, while softwoods are the opposite. Now the guys work most of all with Siberian birch. Suppliers paint it under pressure, so it produces a beautiful texture and pattern that does not repeat itself.
Craftsmen look to see if there are knots and cracks in the wood: they reduce the strength of the material. But if the knot is strong, it is left as a feature of the frame.
4000 R
costs per square meter of the most expensive species - walnut and rosewood
Wood is bought in Russia. From one supplier they take domestic birch, from another they order exotic species: walnut and walnut root, hornbeam, rosewood, wenge - they are imported from Indonesia, Brazil and Africa.
Now the cheapest tree in the workshop is birch; entrepreneurs buy it for 400 rubles per m². The most expensive species - walnut root and rosewood - cost 4,000 rubles per m².
Repair of earhook and temple
There are often cases when one of the temples of glasses breaks into two parts, and the breakdown occurs in the area of \u200b\u200bthe junction of the metal and the plastic tip, fixed to the pin with a screw. In this case, of course, you can use the method of laser soldering of metals, but this option is difficult to implement at home.
It is much easier to use for this purpose a brass plate of the appropriate shape and thickness of 1 mm, connecting both halves ground at the point of contact.
Two holes are drilled in the cover, and there are fixing bends on each side. The size of one of the holes coincides with the relief grooves in the openwork pattern of the metal part, while the second is made arbitrary. After assembling the temple into a single unit, it takes on a completely wearable appearance.
The frame of the temple can be restored using the same methods as the temples. However, in this case, it would be wiser to purchase a new, not very expensive frame that matches the color and structure of the metal. Rearranging it instead of the old broken part will not be difficult.
New exhibitions and orders from Europe
In 2020, entrepreneurs arrived at Mido already prepared. They agreed in advance with the organizers from Milan that they would stand in the zone for young independent brands. Everything has already been built there; all you have to do is come and hang up your photos.
Registration for participation in the exhibition opens six months before the event. After paying the fee, the participant is assigned a place. The Krasnoyarsk administration again paid 5 thousand euros for the Milan exhibition.
At the exhibition, Fedor and Artem found several clients, including a distributor from England. Working with a distributor is convenient: he buys 200 glasses at once at a price lower than the wholesale price, and then sells them on his territory.
Money from the customer goes to a transit currency account. To receive them, entrepreneurs bring a package of documents to the bank. Previously, they asked to show the contract, but since 2020, an invoice for goods not yet shipped with the signature and seal of the buyer is sufficient. At the same time, foreign clients do not have a stamp, and they do not need either a contract or an invoice to order - they just need to transfer money using the details. The guys have to explain the situation, and the clients have to perform unusual actions.
Fedor and Artem collect documents for the bank themselves, and communicate with customers via WhatsApp - this is faster than entrusting all the accounting department.
Broker companies asked for 10-15 thousand rubles for completing a customs declaration for each delivery. Through one of their clients, Fedor and Artem found a freelance broker. His services, together with customs duties, cost 6-8 thousand rubles per declaration. Entrepreneurs did not do the clearance themselves: due to an error, the goods could be stuck at customs for many weeks.
In January and February 2020, Fedor and Artem have already visited three exhibitions: Opti in Munich, 100% Optical in London and Mido in Milan.
We decided to go to Munich when there were no more places. One of the participants refused at the last moment, and his stand went to the guys. There was no time left for preparation, so the entrepreneurs paid a thousand euros to the organizers: they erected mobile partitions, supplied electricity and installed lights.
The cover was also released in London: Fedor and Artem thought that they would have a ready-made stand, but they only received a floor. The guys were helped out by their distributor: he brought a table from home, bought lamps, wires and other materials. It cost about 100 euros.
Metal frame bezel
If the metal rim of the frame breaks, serious repairs will be required, since this place experiences strong deformation loads.
The simplest solution is to glue the metal frame directly to the lenses of the glasses. At the same time, the gluing area increases significantly, which ensures the necessary strength of the formed connection.
For these purposes, the well-known brand of universal glue “Contact” is optimally suited, the strength of which only increases over time. To prevent glue from getting on the plastic lenses, a strip of tape must be glued on both sides of the connecting seam. If the lenses are glass, then you can do without this, since the glue from the glass comes off quite easily.
Plastic frame (rim)
To solder glasses frames or rims made of thermoplastic material, you will need a soldering iron or similar heating device. They are necessary for heating the plastic in the area of fastening broken parts that are joined in a molten state. This is not soldering in the full sense of the word, since solder is not used here.
You can do without soldering tools if you use dichloroethane or benzene, which melts the plastic to the desired state at normal temperatures.
Regardless of the chosen heating method, the parts of the frame, softened to the required state, are tightly pressed against one another and held for some time sufficient to obtain a reliable diffusion connection.
Wearing glasses
2. Use a simple trick to see better. To do this, you need to roll your fingers into a tube, leaving a small hole and look through the hole
. This method works no matter how bad your eyesight is.
3. Microfiber
Best suited for cleaning glasses. Keep several of these cloths in different places so you can always wipe your glasses.
diluted dishwashing detergent to clean lenses.
. Do not use products with alcohol, vinegar, ammonia or bleach as this will damage the coating on your glasses.
5. Scratches on glasses lenses
? Squeeze a small amount of non-abrasive toothpaste onto the lens and use a microfiber cloth to rub the paste in small circular motions onto the scratch.
6. Glue a reflective strip to the glasses case
so you can easily find it in the dark.
7. Put a rubber band on your shampoo bottle
. When you shower without glasses, the rubber band will help you distinguish the shampoo from other similar bottles by touch.
8. To adjust the nose pads,
Place the glasses on a flat surface to see them in relation to each other.
9. If glasses screws get lost or come loose, use a toothpick
as a temporary solution. Align the frame and temple of the glasses, insert a toothpick, and break off the unnecessary part.
10. If your glasses keep sliding off your face
, hold the rounded parts of the arms under hot water for several minutes until the plastic softens a little. Bend the ends slightly downwards so they fit closer to your ears.
Laser repair
The laser soldering method is one of the latest technologies that allows you to perform very fine repairs to metal frames of any shape. The local heating of the contact zone makes it possible to preserve the adjacent areas in an undeformed form.
Laser restoration of parts is carried out using a special microscope, which affects the cost of all repair operations.
Soldering using this method can be done both in a vacuum and in the open air; Moreover, the use of fluxes in this case is not at all necessary. When soldering glasses, it is preferable to use the pulsed operating mode of the laser device, using solders that match the steel grade of the arms or rim.
Professionals solder titanium, composite and steel frames and know how to choose the right solder. Soldering with a low-power laser can lead to parts of the glasses falling apart again after a while, so the choice of device power plays a big role.
Useful video
When wearing glasses, not only the correct lenses are important, but also the perfect fit. If the size is chosen incorrectly or the accessory is too worn, the owner may find that the optics slip off, put pressure on the temples, or sit unevenly on the face. The point of wearing it is lost if it gets in the way more than it helps. Ophthalmologists say: you should not wear uncomfortable glasses. Wearing heavy, loose, unstable or ill-fitting models can impair your vision. This can ultimately lead to recurring headaches, feelings of fatigue, problems concentrating, and increased eye strain. To avoid this, you need to follow certain rules.
How to save your glasses
In order to protect your glasses from breakage, you need to adhere to the following recommendations:
- It is best to wear them with a special safety cord to prevent the product from falling and being damaged;
- before removing clothes, do not forget to take off your glasses to avoid breaking them;
- It is better to store them in a case specially designed for this purpose.
We also note that when not in use, it is advisable to fold the temples, without leaving the glasses in a dangerous and unstable position.
A working device for correcting vision or protecting your eyes from direct sunlight should be at hand at all times. Often glasses break for various reasons. In order to repair glasses with your own hands, you must follow the instructions and prepare the required equipment.
Often it is not possible to go to a specialized workshop. Therefore, you should know exactly how to repair a temple, temple or frame on your own. To this end, the article examines the causes of breakdowns, their types and methods of repairing glasses at home with detailed recommendations.
Range
The guys sell 13 basic models of sunglasses and 5 experimental ones with more extravagant designs. Glasses alone cost from 5.6 to 15 thousand rubles.
Fedor and Artem also make frames for lenses with diopters. Such frames cost 14 thousand rubles, the guys send them abroad. In Russia, frames with corrective lenses are considered a medical device, so you need to obtain a license for it from the Ministry of Health, and for a startup this is expensive.
14,000 R
costs for frames for lenses with diopters
In addition to glasses, the guys make lamps with incandescent lamps. Depending on the size, lamps cost up to 5,500 rubles. They stopped selling small gifts up to 1,000 rubles at retail: there was more hassle with delivery than profit.
For corporate clients, they make clips for banknotes, flash drives and notepads, and come up with custom souvenirs.
Possible causes of failure
Over time, frame parts wear out, with the temples of the product especially often suffering. After all, the temple for glasses is a rather fragile part. Under strong mechanical stress, it cracks, deforms or becomes loose. In addition, during operation the design of the device itself may suffer. Thus, there are frequent cases when a bolt falls off or the frame itself breaks.
It's no secret that things should be treated with care. However, it will still not be possible to protect this or that product from breakdown one day. So, if you forget to put the product in the case, then if it falls on the floor, it will certainly break.
However, the case itself also does not guarantee absolute protection. After all, in the event of a strong collision with the floor, the optical device is also susceptible to minor damage. If a similar problem has happened to you, then let's study in more detail the types of breakdowns and ways to repair glasses with your own hands.
Common types of damage
One of the most unpleasant situations is the breakdown of a correctional product. However, not everyone has savings to buy new glasses or pay for the services of a specialist. But you can’t do without glasses, because these are the “second eyes” for any person who has vision problems. For this reason, you should know how to repair glasses yourself.
So, the most common breakdowns are:
- screws and bolts have become loose;
- the thread for the screw is knocked down;
- the screw is lost;
- the hinge does not hold firmly;
- arch split;
- The glass jumped out of the frame.
Finding a description of various ways to repair plastic glasses is half the battle. It is important to have the right glue on hand. This can be Super Moment universal glue, or another composition based on cyanoacrylate.
How should the optics sit?
The owner of the accessory must ensure the correct position of the frame on the face. To do this, you need to pay attention to three main parameters:
It should extend slightly beyond the cheekbones, about the width of a finger. If you can fit more than one finger between the frame and your temple, then it is too wide. And vice versa - the model is too narrow if the temple and temple touch. This rule applies to men's, women's and unisex models.
- width and height of the bridge (bridge of the nose);
This is the part of the optic that goes through the nose and should fit snugly, not too tight and not too loose. In most cases, metal glasses have adjustable nose pads that help in achieving the correct fit. In our salons you can choose for vision - Premier M18502, Glory 498, as well as sun protection - INVU T1906, Ray Ban RB 3542, etc. Branded plastic accessories also have comfortable nose pads. Models presented in our store – Emporio Armani EA 4029, Lacoste L653S.
How to repair glasses: several ways
As for plastic sunglasses from China, repairing the frames will not be difficult. But if the damage is quite serious, then it is easier to buy the same ones than to start restoring them.
It is worth noting that the choice of glue directly depends on the properties and scope of application of the composition. If the broken arms are made of plastic, then universal adhesive mixtures will do. In turn, for metal glasses, adhesives are selected directly for gluing the metal or the soldering method is used.
If the screw from the hinge of the holes is lost
When a hole becomes loose, a screw from the structure is most often lost. Often, tiny screws of the right size for replacement cannot be found in the store. This problem is easily solved. You can find the required diameter mount in an old calculator or the frame of unnecessary glasses. If the thread is lost, then you need to select a bolt with a slightly larger diameter. Then the hinge will hold better. In this case, to increase strength, the tip of the bolt should be riveted.
If the required bolt is not found, then take regular wire. Insert a piece of it into the eyes and trim off the excess. Then fix the ends of the wire and flatten them with a hammer. You can also use a brass pin. To do this, it is threaded through the ears and flattened in exactly the same way with a hammer.
This way the temple can be secured in the glasses as firmly as possible. If the work is carried out carefully, the repaired area will be completely invisible to others.
How did you come up with this idea?
In 2013, Artem worked as an architect, and Fedor worked as a marketer: he ordered corporate souvenirs from factories in China under a Russian brand.
Krasnoyarsk won the right to host the Winter Universiade in 2019, so the guys wanted to come up with a souvenir with Siberian motifs for the competition. We saw a picture of wooden sunglasses on the Internet and decided to make them: beautiful and at the same time made of wood - reminiscent of the nature of Siberia.
The guys chipped in 20 thousand rubles each and ordered a small batch of sunglasses - only 20 pieces - from the Chinese factory with which Fedor worked. To be on the safe side, we also purchased wooden cases for smartphones there. Such cases were already sold in Russia, and our heroes hoped that it would be easier to sell them.
Width=”1000″ height=”750″ class=”” style=”max-width: 1000px; height: auto"> Wooden frame “Log” costs 14,000 R
Fedor and Artem came up with a logo for the glasses and a simple name - “Log”. For packaging, we bought fabric from a local store, borrowed a sewing machine from Fyodor’s sister, and sewed bags and covers.
To engrave the name on the temples of the glasses, we rented a workshop with a laser for 200 rubles for an hour. Then they photographed the glasses and posted them on social networks.
Within a few months, the batch sold out among friends and acquaintances; the glasses were sold for 3,500 rubles apiece.
3500 R
cost points in the first game
Chinese glasses had a drawback - varnish coating. The varnish filled the cracks and covered the grain of the wood, so the glasses looked like plastic. Buyers didn't like this.
Then Fedor and Artem did not calculate how much they earned from Chinese points. The main thing is that they realized that they did not want to sell Chinese crafts. The guys decided to produce glasses themselves.
