Eat honey, eat ginger - be healthy like a hero!

Lollipops for sore throat at home recipe

Pharmacy remedies for sore throat for resorption are not always pleasant to the taste - some, on the contrary, can cause disgust.
Moreover, they are not very cheap. Therefore, for everyone, we offer a simple recipe for lollipops that will help overcome a sore throat. They will appeal to both adults and children! Lollipops for a sore throat - RECIPE

Homemade inhalations for a runny nose, grandma’s cough syrups - there are many ways to combat cold symptoms, but little is said about how to soothe a sore throat during illness using simple methods. It turns out that candy made in your own kitchen is ideal for this situation.

The whole catch is that to create them you need to use components that have a beneficial effect on our health. In lollipops, you cannot do without cinnamon, which, in addition to having a wonderful taste, is famous for its antibacterial properties, as well as honey, which soothes, has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. It’s not called a home antibiotic for nothing!

To make candy we will need:

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon,
  • ¾ cup honey
  • 1 cup of sugar,
  • ¼ glass of water,
  • (optional) a few tablespoons of orange or lemon juice.

First you need to boil water with sugar and cinnamon in a saucepan until they dissolve and form a dense mass. Then pour it onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper (it is advisable for the caramel to take the form of flat cakes). For each serving we make a stick. We heat the honey to 45 degrees Celsius (at a higher temperature it will lose its properties).

When the candies have cooled, you need to dip them in warm honey and leave them to harden again. After this time, they can already be consumed, but, of course, not too often, because they contain a lot of sugar. During illness (i.e. from time to time), however, it is worth using them.

Are you or your child experiencing a sore throat? Don’t rush to run to the pharmacy for expensive lozenges or sprays! There is an unfairly forgotten remedy for sore throat and cough - homemade lollipops.

Mix in a small saucepan:

  • honey - 300 g;
  • ground ginger - 1 tsp;
  • lemon juice - 0.5 tsp.

Place over low heat and, stirring constantly, cook until thickened (drop the hot syrup onto a saucer - the drop should not spread). Then pour the candy mass into prepared molds (tablespoons will do), pre-greased with vegetable oil from the inside. Place sticks (toothpicks, matches, cotton swabs without cotton, drinking straws). When the candies have cooled, they are ready to eat.

Burnt sugar helps with a sore throat just as well. Proceed similarly to the recipe described above. Pour 100 g of sugar into a saucepan, add a little water or juice. If you want to enhance the mucolytic effect (cough so that the sputum comes out), add another teaspoon of licorice syrup or pertussin (costs a penny at the pharmacy). Stirring the same, bring to a boil over low heat, wait until the mass thickens (even bubbles from boiling will burst more slowly) and pour into molds.

The advantages of this remedy for treating sore throat are obvious: natural, tasty, healthy. A few lollipops a day will relieve a sore throat and will become a child’s favorite treat, and an adult will also enjoy them.

Among the effective ways to treat cough are sucking lozenges, or cough drops. You can prepare such a remedy at home; such a medicine will not contain preservatives, flavors or dyes, and its beneficial effects are the same as those of pharmaceutical products. To make cough drops yourself, you don’t need any special skills or knowledge; just use one of the recipes and spend about half an hour preparing.

When it is not recommended to take a medicine

Cough drops can be given even to small children

Sugar and honey are simple carbohydrates, the intake of which is contraindicated for people suffering from diabetes and pancreatic diseases.

Contraindications also include individual intolerance to the components specified in the lozenge recipe. People prone to allergic reactions should not take sweet medicine.

In general, homemade lollipops are completely natural and do not contain any chemical additives or antibacterial agents. Therefore, they can be safely given even to small children.

You should not take lozenges during a severe coughing attack, as this increases the likelihood of the caramel getting into your respiratory tract. The optimal daily dosage is 5-6 lozenges. This amount of the product will relieve cough and eliminate other unpleasant cold symptoms for several days. If there is no improvement within this time, you should consult a doctor.

Certain precautions should be taken when consuming caramel containing ginger. Its root has a warming effect, so this remedy should not be taken at elevated body temperatures.

Other contraindications to taking ginger root include:

Lollipops are prohibited for cholecystitis

  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute phase;
  • hepatitis;
  • kidney or bladder stones;
  • cholecystitis;
  • arterial hypertension;
  • oncological diseases;
  • blood clotting disorder;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • children under 2 years of age.

How to make cough drops at home. Delicious, simple, natural.

Cough is the most common and unpleasant symptom of colds. It is more debilitating than high fever, weakness and other manifestations of the disease. A cough often interferes with the most important recommendations of doctors - bed rest, sleep.

There are a huge number of different cough remedies in pharmacies, most of them are “stuffed with chemicals.” But is it worth loading an already weakened body with chemicals?

We offer you 3 recipes for natural lozenges for coughs and sore throats, which are very easy to prepare at home. First, let's divide the lollipops into those that will help get rid of

dry cough (softening and bactericidal);

for sore throat (anti-inflammatory, painkillers).

Let us describe the traditional principle

making lollipops, and then we'll look at the medicinal ingredients.
So, to make candy we will need:

  • water - 200 ml;
  • sugar (or honey, if there is no allergy) - 1 glass;
  • medicinal supplements - by prescription.

Cooking method:

mix water and sugar in an enamel bowl, bring to a boil;

add medicinal ingredients to sugar syrup;

Composition No. 1 For dry cough.

Medicinal ingredients: licorice root, eucalyptus, mint, menthol, chamomile, linden blossom, St. John's wort. Licorice root is sold in pharmacies in the form of syrup. The herbs should be brewed in boiling water and allowed to brew for 1 hour. Strain the broth, add sugar and cook until thickened. You can use honey, then add syrup or a strong herbal infusion (for 200 grams of honey - 50 ml of licorice syrup or 100 ml of infusion).

When the mass thickens well, pour it into ice cube trays, small silicone molds, or pour a teaspoon onto parchment paper. If you formed the lollipops on parchment paper (or a silicone mat), then after a few minutes you can carefully separate the lollipops and roll them into balls. Let the lollipops cool and sprinkle them with powdered sugar (so they will stick together less during storage).

Composition No. 2 For wet cough.

Medicinal components that help liquefy and remove mucus from the bronchi: Mother and stepmother, thyme, oregano, ginger, ninesil and others.

You can buy it at the “Breast collection” pharmacy. They are different, but they all help to liquefy and remove mucus. Choose the appropriate composition and make a strong decoction. Next, follow the above recipe. By the way, the honey in the recipe can be replaced with homemade jam, for example raspberry jam.

Composition No. 3 Pain reliever, very good for sore throat.

All the components specified in method No. 1 are appropriate here, because they have an analgesic effect and eliminate inflammation of the mucous membrane. You should add a little baking soda, marshmallow, sage, lemon juice, pine buds, sea buckthorn fruits or jam from them, cumin, birch buds.

You can also prepare lollipops based on strongly brewed hibiscus tea. Honey is an excellent antiseptic.

Some more tips on the candy making process:

- To prevent the mixture from burning, stir it constantly. It's better to use a wooden spoon. In principle, for anyone who has at least once made jam, preparing candy will not be difficult.

— you need to store the finished candies in a glass jar, sprinkled with powdered sugar or just sugar.

— Children love lollipops. It is quite possible to make lollipops. Use wooden skewers for kebabs, dividing them into several parts and cutting off the sharp ends. Wait until the lollipop has cooled slightly and the mass has become quite thick and stick the prepared sticks into the lollipops.

— It is not recommended to give lollipops to children under three years of age, because they can choke on them.

- the usual norm for homemade candies is no more than 3 pieces at a time and no more than 9-10 pieces. per day.

-and of course, you can prepare any candy for your child, not only for treatment, but also for prevention during periods of exacerbation of seasonal viral diseases in kindergarten or school. From any jam, adding nuts, Easter cake powder, dipping the finished sweets into fudge or melted chocolate.

Secrets of the "candy" kingdom

If you have food coloring

, you can add them to sweet syrup. However, when adding such substances, it should be noted that powder dyes should be dissolved in cold water at the initial stage of preparation, otherwise the candies will be unevenly colored.

To give candies a brighter and richer taste

, before you start cooking, heat the amount of water specified in the recipe and pour lemon or orange zest into it. Cool and strain the infusion, and only then start preparing the delicacy.

The benefits of honey and ginger for colds

Benefits of ginger for colds

In China, ginger received the honorary nickname “fire of life” for its warming properties and benefits for diseases. Residents of Northern India, where ginger has been growing since time immemorial, call it “vishwabhesaj”, which translated from Sanskrit simply means “universal remedy”.

Indians, in whose homeland the science of healthy life Ayurveda was born fourteen centuries BC, know a lot about traditional medicine. They used this plant as an aphrodisiac, digestive regulator and immune stimulant, as well as an antidote.

Subsequently, scientists confirmed the plant and developed modern medicines based on it.

In the treatment of ENT diseases, the root acts as:

  • a drug that affects the functioning of the immune system;
  • relieves nervous excitement
  • relieving inflammation;
  • antispasmodic;
  • removing mucus from the lungs;
  • warming;
  • antiseptic.

The listed properties are suitable for relieving a person of a cough caused by a sore throat, acute respiratory viral infection, influenza or bacterial pharyngitis.

While studying the plant, scientists discovered vital components in its structure:

  • Zingiberene is the main component of the essential oil;
  • essential amino acids, including threonine, lysine, methionine and phenylalanine, contribute to the proper functioning of vitamins and minerals and supply muscles with energy;
  • organic acids – enhance the antibacterial effect;
  • vitamins C, A, group B;
  • gingerol, which provides the product with a characteristic pungent aroma and taste.

Sweets, which are used as a simple home remedy for sore throat, are also prepared with the addition of honey. This product has long been recognized by everyone as a source of healing power due to the huge amount of useful substances. Such as iron (strengthening blood cells), potassium (limiting the spread of bacteria), calcium, magnesium, amino acids and proteins (strengthening the immune system), vitamin B2 and many others.

Thanks to the powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of honey, the sedative system is calmed, and the body is filled with microelements important for its health.

DIY cough drops

Why not make your own cough drops? I tried Ricola cough drops, a gift from Sweden. Despite the fact that they do not contain a single word that is unfamiliar to me or even a pharmacological component, the effect was amazing. I didn’t expect anything special, sweets are just sweets, but these... Only after them I was able to fall asleep without coughing and a sore throat. Back to the ingredients: sugar, herbs, caramel coloring and peppermint oil. With such a set of ingredients, it’s not difficult to make homemade cough drops.

I was looking for something herbal, but not too strong; not very sweet, but pleasant to the taste. The purpose of the lollipops is to relieve dry coughs, relieve pain and sore throat. I would also like to obtain a general therapeutic, antiviral and antibacterial effect without the use of pharmacology. I suggest you try the most successful recipes for homemade cough drops.

How to make your own cough drops

I should start with the fact that the recipes contain essential oils. Taking essential oils in food is a sensitive topic, but for myself I decided to take it without violating the recommended dosages and using only the best oils. If good oil is not available, I will simply stop using them. The topic of internal use of essential oils deserves a separate article.

For internal use, you can use the following oils: green anise, basil, bergamot, valerian, cloves, geranium, grapefruit, ylang-ylang, coriander, cinnamon, lemon, mandarin, juniper, nutmeg, mint, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli, petitgrain, fir, rose, rosewood, chamomile, sandalwood, violet, ginger, spruce, hyssop, cedar, myrrh, myrtle, rosemary, tea tree.

You can only use oils of which you are confident in their quality. I am confident in Young Living, Karel Hadek, Just - really high-quality, real medical grade oils that can be used internally (no links, no advertising - my observations).

I used photos from recipe sources.

Recipe No. 1 Cough lozenges with mint leaves

  • 1 tbsp (or 2 bags) mint leaves
  • 1 tbsp (or 2 sachets) chamomile
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon (or grind a cinnamon stick)
  • 0.5 tsp ground ginger
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 0.5 cup honey

Unfortunately, the recipe requires you to boil the honey to caramelize the candies.

Pour the dry ingredients into boiling water and cook for 10 minutes. Let it sit for half an hour and squeeze the liquid into a small saucepan. Add honey. Heat the mixture over low heat until it boils. If you have a cooking thermometer, use it; the mixture should warm up no higher than 150 degrees. If you don't have a thermometer, trust your intuition - in order for the mixture to turn into candy, you will have to boil it down. When the mixture begins to thicken, remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes, stirring a couple of times. Now you can add 4-5 drops of essential oil.

Using a coffee spoon or teaspoon, carefully spoon the mixture onto parchment paper or a silicone baking mat (brilliant invention). Just in case, you can sprinkle the parchment with powdered sugar.

Store in a bag or jar, sprinkled with a spoonful of starch (to prevent sticking), in the refrigerator or a cool, dark place.

Recipe No. 2 Lemon-honey cough drops

  • 150 grams of honey
  • 1 tsp butter
  • NO MORE THAN 10 drops of essential oils (for internal use) Lemon, Eucalyptus, Sage.

Bring honey to a boil over low heat, cook for about 20 minutes. Add a teaspoon of oil. Let cool for 10-15 minutes, stirring a couple of times. Add essential oils. Fill silicone molds with the mixture or place with a small spoon on parchment. It is advisable to dust the parchment with starch or powder. We store the same as the candies from the first recipe.

Recipe No. 3 Cough drops with coconut oil (without boiling)

  • 100 grams of coconut oil at room temperature.
  • 100 grams of honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • No more than 7-8 drops of essential oil (for internal use)

This recipe does not require cooking, very pleasant sweets. In a bowl, beat the coconut oil with a mixer or immersion blender. The oil should be at room temperature and soft. Add honey and whisk until well combined. Add cinnamon and stir. Fill silicone molds or ice trays with the mixture and place in the refrigerator for an hour. Store in a jar in the refrigerator.

Recipe No. 4 Cough drops with lemongrass (lemongrass) and ginger

  • 0.5 cups of dried lemongrass (lemongrass, lemongrass)
  • 0.5 cups of grated ginger root (twice in a meat grinder)
  • Water to cover remaining ingredients
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 0.5 cups honey

Bring the lemongrass, ginger and water (just enough to cover the dry ingredients) to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes. Strain and squeeze thoroughly. Add sugar and honey to the broth, cook for about 20 minutes over low heat. If you have a food thermometer, the temperature of the mixture should be about 150 degrees. Remove the mixture from heat and let cool for 10-15 minutes. Fill the silicone molds and leave to harden, maybe in the refrigerator. Store in a jar in the refrigerator, sprinkled with powder or starch.

Recipe No. 5 Cough lozenges with butter and essential oils

  • 2 cups sugar0.5 cups water
  • 0.5 cups honey
  • 25 grams butter
  • no more than 7-8 drops of essential oils. Give preference to cloves, cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary.

Boil all ingredients, except essential oil, in a saucepan for 20 minutes, stirring constantly.

The temperature needed is the same as in previous recipes. Do not add gas.

Remove from heat and let cool slightly, then add essential oil. Grease the parchment with vegetable oil and spread the mixture on it as quickly as possible.

Quickly roll up the layer, stretch it and cut it into candies. Let it harden completely.

Store in a jar sprinkled with starch or powdered sugar to prevent them from falling off. Can be stored in the refrigerator.

Recipe No. 6 Cough lozenges with hibiscus

Bring the sugar syrup to a boil, cook for about 20 minutes (if you have a thermometer, up to 150 degrees). Remove from heat and carefully add lemon juice. Mix and distribute in a silicone mold or on parchment. Sprinkle the finished candies with powder or starch and store in a jar in the refrigerator. As a basis, you can take the juice of your favorite fruit or an infusion of breast milk, add essential oil.

Recipe No. 7 Cough drops with thyme and sage

  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 0.5 cups molasses
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp. l dried sage
  • 1 tbsp. l dried hyssop

Prepare the mold for the lollipops - grease the glass mold with oil. Boil the herbs in one glass of water for 10 minutes, let it brew for 30 minutes and strain. Mix 0.5 cups of broth with sugar and molasses. Cook over low heat for 20 minutes (or use a thermometer - 150 degrees and remove from heat). Pour into the mold and immediately cut into squares. We store it in a jar.

The process of making candy is not complicated or particularly labor-intensive, but it does require some skill with the cooking temperature. If not the first time, then the second time you will definitely get the lollipops. The main thing is to freeze. You can check the solidification by dropping the mixture into a glass of cold water - you should get a frozen piece of ice. Do not overheat the mixture - it will turn out to be burnt sugar. Don't forget about safety precautions!
