Universal stand for the New Year tree and more

A universal stand that can be used as a convenient adjustable stand for the New Year tree, as well as for various furniture structures (tables, flower stands, hangers, etc.).

The New Year has already arrived and the Christmas holidays are in full swing. Everyone has beautifully decorated Christmas trees at home. However, I would like to return to the topic of Christmas tree stands. By the way, here on the site there are several articles that also offer quite good and original stands.

Still, I want to offer one more design option for such a stand. And although I am a little late with this for certain reasons (I should, of course, write this article before the New Year), nevertheless, I will risk doing it, since the stand I offer is universal. That is, it can be used not only to install a Christmas tree, but also for various types of furniture and other structures. For example, on such a stand you can install various tables, flower shelves, lamps, hangers, etc. In general, there are a huge number of options for using such a stand. In addition, my stand has other advantages, which I will discuss later. Well, now let's get down to making it.

Crosspiece for small and medium-sized Christmas trees

The first project is a classic wooden cross. Its main difference is the absence of a half-tree connection, which eliminates the need for complex markings, work with a chisel and subsequent hassle with adjusting the connection.

A reliable and neat cross is made from four simple blanks - two boards (60x15x2.5 cm) and two square scraps (15x15x2.5 cm).

We determine the place where the boards will intersect. In our case, we measure 22.5 cm from the end of each board.

Using a square, we apply markings.

We do the same with the second board: measure 22.5 cm from the end and apply markings.

We lay the boards along the marking lines and check the accuracy of the fit using a square.

We connect the crosspiece with four screws or self-tapping screws.

We screw supports from square scraps along the edges of the top board.

We apply cross markings to determine the center into which the main rotor will be screwed in or a wide through hole will be drilled.

Drill a pilot hole.

For small trees, mounting with a 120 mm through screw will be sufficient. If desired, you can use a feather drill to make a wide through hole of the required diameter; a depth of 5 cm is enough for the tree trunk to be stably positioned in the cross.

Glue the felt pads. They will protect the floor from scratches and add stability to the cross.

Christmas tree stand with uncut edge

The next project is a simpler, but no less reliable version of the Christmas tree stand. A simple cross, assembled from four boards without unnecessary joints, will provide stable support for a tree of any size. Using a board with an uncut edge, the traditional question: how to cover the crosspiece will disappear by itself. The living edge will add decorativeness to this simple design, and make it a natural extension of the New Year's tree. After the holidays, the crosspiece elements can be easily disassembled and stored until next year.

From a pre-prepared board with one edge trimmed, we cut 4 pieces of the same length. We focus on the size of the tree: the larger it is, the longer the boards will be needed.

We drill guide holes in the faces and ends of the workpieces, which will avoid splitting when tightening the screws.

We assemble the structure on a flat plane and tighten it with screws. We drill a guide hole for the screw that will secure the tree trunk.

A simple and expressive cross in the Live edge style is ready.

Let's get started

  1. First of all, treat each board well. Give them the desired length. Make sure that each end is level, otherwise skewing of the tree cannot be avoided.
  2. Prepare the timber for assembling the stand. Measure 0.5 lengths and cut a groove, its length will be equal to the width of the block, and its depth will not be less? thickness. Cut such grooves in 2 blanks.
  3. If you have PVA glue on hand, apply it to each groove. After it dries, additionally fasten the cross using self-tapping screws. This way you will be twice as safe from the fall of the tree. But do not drive the screws into the center of the future stand. There you still need to make a hole for the spruce trunk.
  4. After assembling the crosspiece, take measurements of the diameter of the lower part of the tree trunk. Select the appropriate drill bit and make an opening in the crosspiece. If the required diameter is not found, make a mark, drill small holes along it close to each other and the middle will fall out on its own. Install a pipe into the hole.

Well, the simplest wooden cross for a Christmas tree has been assembled with your own hands and is ready for use! Now all that remains is to install the forest guest and dress her up along with the kids. You can also make a metal stand, but we will talk about this in another article.

  • Even the most unsightly stand can be decorated so that it becomes invisible. Your imagination will tell you what to use for this.
  • Remember that the most basic characteristic of each of the stands, be it a wooden or metal cross, is stability!
  • Never place the New Year's beauty close to any flammable device.
  • Try not to leave the tree with the lights on overnight.

A live Christmas tree brings the holiday atmosphere and the smell of the forest into your home, but at the same time it causes a lot of headaches when it comes to installing it. In this material we will offer simple and functional solutions that will solve this problem once and for all. Check out five designs for a wooden stand for a Christmas tree - they can be easily made with your own hands using simple blanks and a minimum of tools.

Adjustable cross for Christmas trees of all sizes

The third project is a simple and stable wooden stand that can be adjusted to any trunk diameter. The crosspiece consists of three supporting elements. The optimal length of each part is 250 mm. Two parallel grooves are milled in the face of each of them. The ends of the boards are cut at an angle of 60°, and shallow guide holes for screws with wide washers are drilled into them. It is convenient to store the collapsible elements of the cross in a compact stack until the next holiday.

High stand for large Christmas trees

Four elements, cut with a jigsaw according to the template suggested below, will easily turn into a beautiful and stable stand that can support a Christmas tree 2.5 meters or more in height. The structure is tightened using screws screwed into pre-prepared holes, and can also be easily disassembled without taking up extra space during storage. You can place a reservoir of water under the stand so that the spruce stands even longer and continues to fill the house with its unique scent.

Simple stands made from wood cuts

The simplest version of the stand is shown in the photo. Having at your disposal a round wooden cut and a drill with a wide feather drill, the issue of installing a Christmas tree is resolved in a matter of minutes.

With the New Year holidays approaching, many begin to think about how to make a durable stand for the Christmas tree. It should be simple, sustainable and safe.

Why do you need a Christmas tree stand?

Any living Christmas tree needs additional strengthening. Therefore, a convenient stand comes to the rescue. It is needed so that the tree stands straight and Christmas decorations and garlands do not fall off it. And also so that the tree itself stays level throughout the New Year holidays.

REFERENCE! Well, the most important point is the moment of safety. After all, if there is a stand, there will be less chance that someone will hit the tree and it will fall.

Of course, there are situations involving children or pets. But a quality tree stand will ensure maximum safety for everyone. The main thing is to choose or make a stand in accordance with the required parameters.

Advantages of the stand

Well, in conclusion, I want to talk in more detail about the advantages of this stand design.

Firstly

, this structure rests on the floor surface with three legs, which means that it will stand stably on any floor, since, as is known from the stereometry course, a plane can be drawn through any three points in space, and only one. Everyone has probably seen how stable a three-legged stool stands on the floor, while a four-legged stool or chair may not be stable.

Secondly

, this stand is adjustable, that is, the screws on the legs can be adjusted and this stand can be placed exactly on any, even curved, surface.

Third

, since this stand is assembled with screws, it is collapsible. In other words, if you don’t need it at the moment, you can always disassemble it into compact parts and put it away somewhere.

Well, and finally, fourthly

, this stand is universal and can be used as a basis for a wide variety of designs. However, I already talked about this.

Well, that's probably all. Happy New Year and Christmas holidays to everyone!

What is needed to make a metal stand?

A metal stand made by yourself can maintain the natural and festive look of the Christmas tree throughout the holidays. When purchasing a real tree at the Christmas tree market, you always need to come up with a stand for it. You can draw a drawing and make any version of this product yourself.

For example, a metal pipe and rod are suitable for these purposes. It is best to choose a metal that is more ductile and flexible so that it does not crack during various activities. The stand manufacturing scheme is quite simple:

  • From the fold line we measure a segment of about 10 mm.
  • We insert the rod into the vice along the pre-designated bend line.
  • We install the construction angle at a right angle relative to the vice and squeeze it tightly.
  • Next, use a hammer to hit the rod near the bend line and bend it to the desired angle on one side. Using the same principle, we bend it from the other part in the opposite direction. The result is one metal product support for the Christmas tree. Using exactly the same pattern we make the other legs.
  • We use a grinder to cut four indentations on the pipe. If necessary, you can make six holes at once. The grooves increase the surface of contact of the liquid with the log of the tree, while increasing the feeding of the tree with the necessary substances.
  • We measure the required size for all supports and remove the excess.
  • We weld the supports to the pipe.
  • We process open cuts with a file. After this, we process the welds with a special tool.
  • We insert the Christmas tree into the resulting product. Place a jar filled with water at the bottom.

Manufacturing process

To make it more clear, as well as for ease of work, I drew a drawing on the computer of the most complex part - the plywood base. In addition, I printed the drawing on a printer and cut out a template from it for more convenient work. Although, of course, you can do without a template by simply marking the plywood blank. True, in this case you may also need a compass.

So, let's start making the stand.

To begin, we place the template on the plywood and carefully trace it with a pencil. We prick the centers of the holes with an awl.

Then we drill holes for the screws with a drill with a diameter of 4mm, and the central hole with a drill with a diameter of 8mm.

We countersink the holes for the screws with a spherical cutter. By the way, this operation can be done with a large-diameter drill (10-12mm), but with a milling cutter it turns out cleaner and more accurately.

Next, we cut out the plywood base with a jigsaw.

Then we start making the legs of the stand.

To do this, we mark the legs on the board. I chose the length of the legs 21 cm.

For beauty, let's make the ends of the legs rounded. To mark the curve, we use a round object, for example, an old coffee can.

After this, we mark and prick with an awl the centers of the holes for the screws and drill them out with a drill with a diameter of 2.5 mm.

Then we cut out the legs with a jigsaw.

Don't forget to carefully sand all the parts of our stand.

Now we have all the necessary components, so let's start assembling the stand.

We screw the legs to the plywood base.

Then we screw screws with a press washer to the lower ends of the legs.

And now our stand is ready.

Choosing a size

For trees up to 170 cm in size, you will need a special stand with a plastic body. They can have a modern and unusual design.

If the height of the tree reaches two or more meters, then more effective and reliable devices are required. Christmas trees of this size are usually placed for events and New Year's holidays. A stand for such a large tree will have the appearance of a cross, as well as an additionally equipped central pipe for greater balance. Such a pipe in its cross-section can have a circle or a square. A metal pipe will significantly add mass to the product itself, and therefore stability and balance to the tree itself.

ATTENTION! It is also worth noting that products of the combined type have good indicators of strength, reliability and wear resistance.

They have steel supports and a special plastic container for wood. These types of devices have high load-bearing capacities. They are able to firmly hold a tree up to two meters high and higher.

Instructions on how to make a stand with your own hands

Making a tripod for the main New Year's accessory yourself is not difficult. The main thing is to follow simple rules and instructions.

The simplest version of the stand is to collect sand in a bucket and insert the Christmas tree into it. But it’s best to make something unusual and original. To make a stand, you will need the following additional materials:

  • nails, screws;
  • hammer;
  • moisture-resistant plywood;
  • sandpaper;
  • grinder or grinder;
  • power saw or jigsaw;
  • screwdriver

IMPORTANT! Wooden planks for assembly can be of different sizes. It all depends on the tree itself and the radius of the base. You can also use a sheet of water-resistant plywood.

Let's look at how to make a Christmas tree stand yourself:

  • We cut out elements from a waterproof sheet of plywood in advance according to a pre-drawn pattern.
  • Next, we align the ends in them.
  • We make markings for the center of the holes, and also drill through recesses in the leg and base
  • Smooth out sharp edges.
  • We polish the parts and then coat them with a special antiseptic for wooden surfaces.
  • The next stage is the application of decorative paint so that it harmonizes well with the color of the bark and spruce paws.
  • Next, using special fasteners, as well as wooden dowels, we connect all the prepared elements with each other.
  • We strengthen the trunk of the Christmas tree into the recess of the base.
  • Pour water into a glass jar. The size of the jar depends on the size of the tree itself and the diameter of its trunk.

Materials and tools

So, to make a universal stand we will need:

Materials

  • a small piece of plywood 10-12 mm thick;
  • wooden plank 2x4x80 centimeters;
  • six wood screws, 4 mm in diameter. and 4-4.5 mm long;
  • three screws with a press washer (wide head), diameter 4.2 mm and length 4-4.5 mm;
  • paper template (optional).

As the base of the stand, I used a piece of plywood measuring 18.5 by 20 centimeters and 10 mm thick. Moreover, I took this piece of plywood, as well as the board for the legs of the stand, from waste, which explains these specific dimensions and, ultimately, the final dimensions of the entire stand. However, if you want to make such a stand, you can naturally choose a better material and the size you need.

Required Tools

  • measuring and drawing tools (pencil, square, ruler);
  • awl (for making holes);
  • three metal drills with a diameter of 2.5 mm, 4 mm, 8 mm;
  • spherical wood cutter (also called a rough cutter), for countersinking the chamfers of holes for screw heads;
  • electric jigsaw with a file for shaped cutting on wood;
  • electric drill-driver;
  • PH2 bit for screwdriver;
  • sandpaper.

Choosing material for the stand

The main task of a Christmas tree stand is to hold a tree hung with toys. There are designs that are made from a combination of plastic or metal. Give preference to non-toxic materials so as not to worry about the safety of children.

If you plan to buy a compact tree up to 1 meter high, then you can make a cross from wood. In addition, the base, painted to match the texture of the trunk, will blend harmoniously with the tree and will not attract much attention. For a two-meter beauty, a more reliable stand is needed. The wooden base is reinforced with a metal pipe, the diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the pillar.

The most reliable products are those made in the form of a tripod made of steel. By design, they are small buckets standing on supports. If desired, the container can be filled with earth, sawdust or water, and then the Christmas tree will last a long time without losing its freshness. The tree trunk is secured inside using special screws. If you have forging or metal carving skills, then it will not be difficult for you to make an original stand with an ornament yourself.

Installing the Christmas tree on a stand

Now let's look at how this stand can be used to install a Christmas tree.
To do this, we will need:

  • the stand itself;
  • Christmas tree. Since I currently do not have the opportunity to use a real Christmas tree, I will replace it with a wooden beam 4x4 centimeters and approximately 1 meter long;
  • electric drill;
  • metal drill with a diameter of 6-6.5 mm;
  • plumbing rod with M8 thread;
  • M8 nut with washer;
  • 6mm open-end wrench;
  • 13mm socket wrench or socket.

First, we drill a hole with a diameter of 6 or 6.5 mm in the end of our Christmas tree-beam for a plumbing pin.

Then we screw the plumbing pin deeper into the drilled hole with a 6mm open-end wrench. By the way, if you do not have a very thick base of the tree trunk, then to prevent it from cracking while screwing the pin, wrap the end of the trunk with wire.

After this, screw the stand to the stud with an M8 nut using a socket. Since the tip of the pin turned out to be quite long, I used an intermediate spacer in the form of a wooden block with a hole drilled in it with a diameter of 8mm. I inserted this block between the stand and our “Christmas tree”.

And this is the result.

I must say that our “herringbone” block rests quite firmly on the stand.

By the way, if your Christmas tree is crooked, can you always straighten it out? simply adjusting the screws with a press washer on the legs of the stand with a screwdriver.

And of course (as I already said), this stand can be used in the manufacture of various furniture elements. For example, you can make a table like this.

If you are afraid that the screw heads at the ends of the legs may scratch the floor, you can place something under the stand (a piece of fabric or thick plastic film). Or you can simply place a plastic bottle cap under each screw.

Wooden stand

Making a Christmas tree stand with your own hands is not difficult if you know how to work with tools at least a little. Having completed all the processes correctly, in the end you will receive a device suitable for installing a New Year's attribute.

Materials, tools and fasteners

To make a wooden stand you will need:

  • long board 5-7 cm wide;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • roulette;
  • pencil or marker;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or drill;
  • crown attachment.

The wooden cross stand is made after purchasing the Christmas tree so that the diameter of the trunk is known.

Sketch of the future stand

The sizes of wooden beams are selected depending on the dimensions of the Christmas tree. The larger it is, the thicker the boards will be needed.

Manufacturing stages

Making a “cross” will not take much time. In just a couple of hours you can start installing and decorating the Christmas tree.

  1. Carefully study the template and use a pencil to make markings on a piece of wood.
  2. Using a router or jigsaw, cut two identical wooden parts according to the markings.
  3. On the bottom part, cut a groove exactly in the middle. The size of the groove is equal to the width of the upper workpiece.
  4. The upper part is inserted into the prepared groove until it stops.
  5. In the center of the structure, using a drill attachment, cut out a round hole, slightly larger than the diameter of the tree trunk.
  6. The upper and lower parts are additionally connected with self-tapping screws.

In order for the protruding legs of the “cross” to stick out and not cause constant impacts on them, cut off their upper corners diagonally.

If you want to place a container of water under the base, you can provide each of the four legs with additional supports. To do this, cut four bars from the remaining wood, the width of which will be slightly larger than the boards of the stand itself. The length can be approximately 3-4 cm, the height is selected based on the height of the container that you plan to use.

Having risen above the floor level, the stand now has free space for placing a bowl of water. The edge of the trunk, touching the water, will be saturated with moisture, and the tree will last much longer.

How to install an artificial Christmas tree

When installing a non-living spruce, do not:

  • place it near walls and radiators;
  • install an artificial tree in the center of the living room;
  • straighten the branches of the tree parallel to the floor and each other.

Installing an artificial tree is quite simple. Since you purchase it from a store, it already comes with a stand. You don't have to bother here.

The instructions clearly state how to assemble it correctly.

Straighten the branches randomly, the more indiscriminately you do this, the more magnificent your beauty will be.

If you want a non-living tree to give you a real aroma, spray it with pine scent.

You should not weigh down the spruce, because the artificial tree may not hold up.

How to install a Christmas tree so that it stands for a long time?

Everyone wants to enjoy the New Year and the smell of spruce for longer. We will share with you several ways to extend the life of a green tree.

If you think that after cutting down a spruce, it dies - this is not true at all. She is still alive and keeping her alive is good for you.

Give the tree water up to 2 liters per day. To prevent the water from turning sour and spoiling, make the following solutions that will help the Christmas tree stand for a long time:

  • for 1 liter of water add 1 tablespoon of bath salts;
  • 10 drops of essential oil per 1 liter of water;
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar per 1 liter. water;
  • spoon of mustard per 1 liter. water.

You can spray the needles with water or dissolve chalk and citric acid in water (a teaspoon per liter).

By adding such products, your tree will last a long time, because it will receive the necessary vitamins and not dry out.

Decorate the Christmas tree with garlands and it will definitely delight you for a very long time!
