What will you need for the craft?

Pine cones;

While it was not difficult to decide on the base of the tree, I immediately decided that it would be a cardboard cone, but the color of the tree and its decor did not work out so easily. How to make a Christmas tree from pine cones?

Making a cone

First you need to make a cone out of cardboard. It is advisable that the cardboard be thick, or glue two together. Since the tree will be green, it is also better to take green cardboard so that it becomes one with the cones.

Make a bag out of cardboard and glue the edges.

Trim the bottom to create an even cone. The base of the tree is ready, now it’s time to move on to gluing the cones.

Glue the cones

Warm up the glue gun for 5 minutes. During this time, select larger cones for the first row. Place a bead of glue on the cone and immediately press it to the bottom of the cone. Glue the first row of cones, fitting them tightly so that there are as few gaps as possible. Thanks to the glue gun, the work progresses very quickly.

Glue the second row, trying to place the pine cone between the two from the first row. Of course, due to the different sizes of the cones, this is not always possible, but it’s worth a try.

We are moving more and more confidently towards the top, and now the third and fourth rows are ready. If possible, the top rows may be occupied by smaller cones. But somehow it didn’t work out for me; the bumps were almost all the same.

Glue the last row of cones and place one of them on top. But there are also several options here, for example, you can not glue a pine cone to the top, but just a star, a bow, or any other decoration.

Decorating a Christmas tree with pine cones

We started decorating the next day, since the gouache does not dry as quickly as we would like.

My daughter’s beads, which she had worn out for a long time, came in handy as toys. I also glued the beads with a glue gun, but I had to tinker with this little detail. Cones are much easier to work with.

Well, the finishing touch is not very fluffy yellow tinsel, wrapped three times around the tree. This is how the tree made of cones turned out, cute and bright.

Christmas tree made of cones (step by step instructions)

3. Now let's prepare the pot. Wet the tip of a wide brush with gold paint and paint the ceramic pot, moving the brush around the pot in one direction. After the first layer dries quickly, apply the second.

4. Scratch the dried pot in several places with a needle or iron brush. Wipe off the spilled powder with a dry cloth and cover the pot with colorless varnish.

5. Using a glue gun, apply the prepared cones and nuts onto the foam cone from the bottom up.

6. We mold tightly, alternating nuts and cones, and fill the empty spaces with acorns or small nuts. We use only small nuts at the top.

7. Do it yourself or use a ready-made star template and draw its outline on the pot.

8. Break the walnut or hazelnut shells into small pieces. Apply universal glue to one ray of the star and begin gluing pieces of the shell. So we will gradually fill the entire star with a mosaic.

9. If we want our Christmas tree to stand firm and not fall, we’ll pour plaster into the pot. Start pouring gypsum powder into a bowl of water until white caps begin to form.

10. Place two pegs in the pot so that they protrude from the pot and reinforce them with stones. Mix the gypsum and pour it into the pot. You can fill it all the way to the top or fill only part of the pot and fill the remaining space with acorns. After the plaster has hardened, place the Christmas tree on the pegs.

11. To highlight the beauty of the Christmas tree, you can illuminate it with small candles placed in small pots and lined with dry slices of lemon and orange.

Candle instead of a Christmas tree If you don’t have time to make a Christmas tree, we can make a simpler New Year’s decoration. Place stones in the prepared pot and pour in plaster, into which we insert a cylindrical candle just before hardening. Place gilded nuts, cones and acorns on the hardened plaster.
