Where and how to compactly store plastic bags in the kitchen

A CONTAINER FOR TRASH - IT SEEMED TO BE A SMALL THING! BUT WHEN THE WORKSHOP IS SMALL AND THE WORK IS BUSHING, SAWDUST AND CUTTINGS ON THE TABLE AND UNDER YOUR FEET CAN STOP ANY CREATIVE IMPULSE. ALEXANDER STEPANOV SOLVED THIS PROBLEM BY MAKING A CONVENIENT WASH BASKET WITH A REMOVABLE BAG FROM UNUSUAL MATERIALS.

I love carpentry! In my free time I work on the balcony in the winter, and in the summer in the workshop at the dacha.

During work, I always collected waste in a bucket. It filled up quickly, and a lot of garbage always accumulated around. I had to pour everything into a bag and sweep it up. In the end, I decided to make it so that the scraps and sawdust could be immediately collected in a bag and then taken to the trash can.

FIX THE BAG

I usually use bags made of synthetic fibers: polyethylene ones tear quickly due to the sharp edges of the wood. The folded size of the bag is 550 x 900 mm. It has three times the capacity of a bucket. If you hang the bag on hooks, it is inconvenient to use, and to put such a bag, you need a suitable large container, but I didn’t have one.

I decided to make a frame 60 cm high from 0 25 mm polypropylene pipes and 90° angles. At first I wanted to assemble a frame with square ends connected by posts. The distance between the posts was 225 mm. The container turned out to be narrow and unstable, and it would be difficult to pull the filled bag out of it, even if you made only two legs.

As a result, I assembled an octagonal frame with four legs from pipes and 135° angles. Knowing the circumference of the neck of the bag, I calculated the radius of the cylindrical container - 175 mm. The internal diameter of the cylinder is 300 mm. Calculated the length of the chord. After that, I selected the details of the octagonal frame.

Types of sachets

There are a huge variety of bags on sale, ranging from garbage bags to the smallest sandwich bags. As a rule, several types of packages are used on the farm:

  • Disposable small ones. Used for packing children's lunches for school and for storing food in the refrigerator.
  • Household portable ones. We use them when we go shopping at the grocery store. Often, forgetting to take another bag with us, we buy a plastic bag again at the supermarket. In total, a great many of them gather at home.

Ideas for storing bags in the kitchen

It’s a shame to throw it away, and it’s not recommended. Because polyethylene is harmful to the environment. It is better to save them and use them later on the farm.

  • Garbage. The biggest ones. They often come on a roll and are used as needed. They do not take up much space if stored in their original presentation.

Ideas for storing bags in the kitchen

For storage, different types are divided into small ones separately and large ones separately. The same applies to the material, since plastic specimens are much thicker than polyethylene ones. And paper ones cannot be rolled up at all. During sorting, it is worth getting rid of old, torn or dirty items.

BLANKS FOR FRAME

Polypropylene pipes are very convenient as a building material. At the same time, heat the pipe outside and the fitting inside, insert the pipe into the fitting and let it cool. The plastic sets quickly, forming a strong connection.

To make the frame I used two 2 m pipes (see table). The distance between the corners is 76 mm. and between the tee and the corner - 9 mm. When welding, pipe sections are immersed in angles and tees to a depth of 16 mm. Warming up the pipe in the apparatus is for nine seconds, cooling the connection is at least four minutes.

It turned out that a filled bag is still not easy to pull out through the top or between the racks. I cut out one leg and it became easier to remove a full bag. I assembled the second frame for the dacha with two legs. But the first attempt failed...

First experiment: using polypropylene pipes and angles (135°), I welded an octagonal frame on four legs.

Organizer bottle

The organizer is simple to make:

  1. You need to cut off the top of the bottle.
  2. Roll up thick plastic bags with handles one at a time.
  3. Place them vertically in the bottle.

We recommend: How and for how long can Dioxidin be stored after opening?

The organizer is ready. You can glue a “collar” of any fabric on top with a tightening rope drawstring so that the contents do not fall out of the bottle when lying down.

Tested: rolled rolls are easy to take out and put back into the organizer; they do not wrinkle.

TECHNOLOGY FEATURE

When welding polypropylene blanks, you should quickly insert the heated end of the pipe into a softened tee or corner. This must be done within a few seconds, while simultaneously ensuring the exact position of the parts in space.

Otherwise, the structure will come out crooked or it will not be possible to assemble it at all. This happened to me when I tried to make a frame with two racks for country garbage: the octagonal top and bottom of the frame turned out to be oval, and the racks turned out to be inclined.

WELDING TEMPLATE

In order not to waste precious seconds and at the same time accurately assemble any structures, I made a template that allows you to quickly connect a heated pipe and fitting, accurately maintaining the angles between them.

I found on my farm a square piece of 10 mm plywood with a side of 27 cm. I cut one corner of the square at an angle of 45°. Then I glued three strips along the cut edge with PVA glue (Tytan WB-33). The height of the side is 50 mm. The length of the outer short strips is 10 cm, and the middle one is no less than 23 cm. I also glued a 10 cm long strip to the bottom corner of the plywood.

The wall thickness of the fittings is 5.5 mm. When welding a pipe and fitting, this thickness is reduced to 4.75 mm. Therefore, to accurately position the pipe relative to the fitting, I glued wooden strips ~4.8 mm thick in those places where the pipe should lie.

How to fold T-shirt shopping bags: 7 ways

To ensure that packages take up minimal space, you should not store them scattered. It is much more convenient to carefully fold them and place them in a small box, drawer or organizer.

Packages folded into triangles

Where and how to compactly store plastic bags in the kitchen

The method is quite scrupulous, however, very effective. Each bag needs to be folded separately, and then can be placed in one container.

Action plan:

  • Unfold the bag and place it on the table or floor.
  • Fold the bag in half lengthwise.
  • Repeat to create a narrow strip.
  • Fold the corner at the bottom to form a triangle.
  • Fold the triangles in the same way up to the top edge with the handles.
  • Bend the handles into the hole made from the last triangle.

Now bags and T-shirts will take up minimal space

The hard way

By the way, packages can be folded this way, although probably not everyone will decide to do this.

Fold into a tube

Folding the bags a little faster this way. For this:

  1. Straighten the plastic and place the bag on the table.
  2. Bend the bag lengthwise several times to create a narrow strip.
  3. Roll the strip around your fingers.
  4. Wrap the resulting tube with handles to secure it.

Envelope

An envelope is convenient for folding bulky and dense packages.

Procedure:

  1. Flatten the bag.
  2. Fold the bag first horizontally and then vertically.
  3. You should end up with a square or small rectangle.

It is convenient to put such blanks in a drawer or box.

One in the other

The method is suitable for storing bags in a container or tissue box.

  • Lay the bag flat on the table.
  • Fold the bag along a vertical line.
  • Start twisting the plastic from the bottom edge.
  • Stop where the handle begins.
  • Place the second bag folded in half here.
  • Continue twisting, adding one bag at a time.
  • Place the finished package in a container, pulling the handles of the last package out.

Large bags can be folded and tied with an elastic band

But some people roll larger packages like this, tying them with an elastic band

WELDING OF PARTS

Having removed the pipe and the corner from the welding machine, I quickly place them in a template and connect them, pressing the corner against the side, and the pipe section against the thin strips. I hold it for at least 30 seconds. As a result, after several stages of welding, all fittings lie in the same plane, the angles are equal to 135°, and the axes of the tees are at right angles to this plane.

Moving clockwise, I weld only one joint. It will not be possible to firmly weld two pipes and a fitting (or two fittings with a pipe) at once: the connection cools down quickly. Before moving on to welding the next joint, you need to let the previous one set well.

The frame is lightweight, which made it possible not to remove the device from the stool. He calmly connected the octagon to the first leg, holding the end of the second leg opposite the other tee. Then a problem arose: how to weld the closing joint of the entire frame? This is the top of the second leg and the tee of the octagonal top of the frame. I had to heat up only one element of the joint. He took off the device and put it on the free end of the leg. The warm-up time was increased from 9 to 15 seconds. Then the softened end of the leg was inserted into the cold hole of the tee and pressed forcefully on the octagon from above.

It is easy to remove the filled bag from the frame on two legs. To prevent the bag from accidentally falling out of the frame, I secure it, like clothespins, with staples, which are used to fasten polypropylene pipes to walls.

Ideas for storing bags in the kitchen

In our material we will offer ideas on the topic: how to store bags in the kitchen. After all, such a useful attribute in the household, even despite its small size and weight, often takes up a lot of space. Especially if there are a lot of packages. Try organizing a place to store polyethylene, and you will notice how much more comfortable your kitchen will become.

Classic way

This is the so-called banal package with packages. To prevent it from lying around in a heap in a desk drawer, secure it to the back of the desk door or cabinet with two hooks. Place all other packages in it. They can first be folded into a rectangle or triangle.

Ideas for storing bags in the kitchen

It is important that all bags are dry and relatively clean before folding. If moisture or food fat remains in any of them, the bag will lock from the inside and will emit specific odors.

You can use several square boxes of the same size. Before doing this, cover them with decorative paper. It is sold in office supply stores. You can even use adhesive paper. Choose colors to match your kitchen decor. This will complement the interior design of the room. Make small holes in the lids of the boxes so that the bags can be removed through them. Then simply place your bags in each of the boxes and close them. You can secure such cardboard containers with double-sided tape in a place convenient for you. For example, on the window, on the kitchen table, cabinet.

Sturdy cardboard shoe boxes are ideal storage. You can put it on a windowsill or in a kitchen table drawer. Cut an oblong hole in the lid. The box does not need to be closed if the packages are folded into triangles.

External and internal walls can be decorated:

  • multi-colored scraps of fabric;
  • napkins;
  • colored paper.

An empty tissue package will be a convenient and practical organizer for bags.

Fold the bags using the “one inside the other” method and place them in a container with the tail sticking out through a special hole. When you take out one bag, it will drag the second one with it, the handles of which will stick out from the hole. This will continue until all the bags in the container are gone.

Plastic bottles

There is an interesting idea to store bags in the kitchen in a plastic bottle. Moreover, the bottle can be of very different sizes from a small liter to a large eggplant. The principle of such storage is simple. You need to turn the empty, clean bottle upside down and cut off the bottom, but not all the way. So that it opens like a lid. Then place your plastic bags in the eggplant. You can stack them one by one. All you have to do is pull out the bags from below through the neck of the bottle. This type of storage is very convenient. It is better to mount a homemade plastic container on the wall in a place convenient for you or on the inside of any cabinet or table door.

Ideas for storing bags in the kitchen

You can secure the homemade container with double-sided tape on foam or with a self-tapping screw.

This organizer has 2 options for use:

  • Unscrew the lid and remove the bags from the neck.
  • Do not touch the bottom, cutting off only the top of the bottle. Hang the container upside down. Place and remove bags from one opening.

If you use liquid laundry detergent, a great organizer can be made from an empty bottle of it.

How to store packages

Show a little imagination and make not just an organizer from the container by cutting off a bottle, but a real decorative detail, for example, an elephant. You will need 2 identical bottles, as well as glue, scissors and decorative paints as tools.

Procedure:

  • Make ears from the wide side parts of 1 container, cutting them along the contour.
  • In the second bottle from the handle side, just below the middle, make 2 round holes.
  • Cut off the bottom.
  • Paint all pieces separately.
  • Insert cotton pads into the holes near the handle and form tusks.
  • Glue the ears to the side parts.
  • Draw the elephant's eyes and skin wrinkles.
  • Attach the organizer to the wall with the neck facing down.
  • Unscrew the lid, place the bags in the container and use as needed.

Bright cases

In this case, you will have to dig around in the mezzanines and cabinets around the house. Surely every family has a couple of covers for folding umbrellas. As a rule, they are lying around unattended. It would be a shame to throw it away. However, we rarely or almost never use them. It’s especially good if the covers are made in different bright colors. You can even ask neighbors or friends for covers. Choose several of these bags to match your furniture and design. Just hang them on hooks on the wall. Place folded bags in there and remove them as needed.

Plastic containers

In this case, just use whatever plastic container you use the least. Fold the bags into a rectangle or triangle and place them in the container. Remove as needed. If desired, the plastic box can be beautifully decorated on the outside. So it will also become an interesting addition to the interior.

Its volume will be enough to fit a large number of packages, and a hinged lid or latch will add convenience to using the organizer.

Handicrafts

If you have time and have a passion for sewing and creativity, then sew homemade bags or pouches for bags. The principle of their operation will be the same as that of umbrella covers. Only here you can choose the size of your handbag or pouch yourself. Cute products can be beautifully placed in the kitchen interior. No one will guess that this is a place to store packages.

Method 2 in 1: storage of bags and original room decor. The peculiarity of the craft is the fluffy skirt, under which the bag for the bags is hidden. You can either sew or knit a doll yourself, or buy a finished product in a store. If the purchased doll has a small skirt, attach new, fuller clothes. Hang the doll in a visible place in the kitchen or living room, after placing bags in it.

If the storage doll does not fit into your interior, you can simply hang a decorative bag with drawstrings.

To make it you will need a rectangular piece of fabric, thread, scissors, a needle and a lace or elastic band.

Sewing options:

  • Sew the sides of a rectangular piece of fabric and sew the top edge to create a tunnel for the lace. Insert the lace and pull it off. Also, on the front side, sew a loop on which the bag will hang.
  • You can make a cylinder storage bag from narrower fabric. Cut the fabric into two long pieces and stitch them along the sides. Do not sew the top of the workpiece, just finish the edges and sew a loop for hanging. Insert a small elastic band into the bottom edge and tighten it so that the bags are easy to remove and do not fall out.

Hang the finished product in a convenient place in the kitchen and fold the pre-folded bags.

If you have knitting skills, try knitting a bag for bags. For this you can use both knitting needles and a crochet hook.

Come up with the size and design of the product. Cast on the required number of loops and knit enough rows for the desired length. The modification of the bag can be either with packing from the bottom or from the top.

Fabric bag for bags on hangers

Cotton fabric will do. It is easy to wash. The bag is sewn from two parts. The lower part has the shape of a rectangle. The second part is sewn together from 2 triangles. It follows the shape of the shoulders.

A shaped hole is made in one of the long sides. It is treated with bias tape. Both parts are sewn together and hangers are inserted.

This elegant storage can be hung in a visible place, on the door. It's not only functional. Beautiful fabric will fit into the kitchen design.

Tin can container

From a tin can you will make a stylish and convenient organizer, similar in function to a napkin package. Fold the bags one inside the other and place them in a jar. Make an X-shaped cut on the lid for easy removal of the bag from the container.
