DIY garage alarm: efficiency, composition

Protecting a dacha in winter has always been a pressing problem for its owners. In summer it’s naturally easier. After all, as a rule, in each dacha community there are several houses in which the owners live all season, and thieves prefer not to go where there are people, even in the neighborhood.

Some owners of modest properties, such as country houses made from block containers, claim that they have nothing to steal from them and neglect security measures. But according to statistics, it is medium and small dachas that suffer first of all.

Serious robbers do not engage in this trade, but petty thieves, homeless people and parasites, prefer not to go into luxury mansions, since there is a high probability of running into security.

Composition of homemade alarms

Security systems created by oneself have a fairly simple design, which ensures simple assembly and reliable operation of the security systems being developed. The main elements that a homemade garage alarm contains include an IR motion sensor, an audible siren, mounting elements and a power source.

If the garage has a standard 220 V electrical network, then the sound detector can be connected to it. If one is not available, then you will have to upgrade the siren so that it can operate on a voltage of 12 V. For this purpose, a 6-volt relay is added to the electrical circuit. Power will be supplied to the sensor through the switch. In this case, when the device is triggered, voltage will flow to the relay winding, which will lead to its activation and, as a result, to the connection of the siren. Unused car batteries can be used as a 12-volt power source.

Alternative approaches

The cost of installing specialized equipment can be quite high.

Therefore, if you have some basic knowledge of electronics, you can try to install the system yourself.

  • Of the necessary equipment, you will need a control panel and sensors for doors and windows. We would also recommend purchasing motion sensors. Decide for yourself whether GSM security is needed for your dacha, but you need to purchase a sound and light alarm. The vast majority of petty thieves, upon hearing a siren, will prefer to run away.
  • The system must be equipped with a signal beacon, this is a small red LED that constantly blinks in a visible place. Ideally, it should report an intrusion, but besides, psychologically, not every thief will decide to break in after seeing a blinking peephole.
  • Fortunately, gone are the days when such equipment cost a lot of money. Now the price of the minimum set is quite affordable for the average summer resident. Do not be intimidated by manual assembly, the design is block-based and understanding the sequence of connections is not difficult.

Tip: It’s even easier to connect the door sensor to the call button of an old mobile phone. Thus, when the door opens, the phone will automatically dial the programmed number and the owner will not only learn about the violation, but also hear what is happening in the house.

Security alarm with siren

This security alarm for a garage is the simplest and cheapest option that can be implemented independently and with minimal financial costs. The principle of operation of such alarms is to activate sound siren devices when the sensor is triggered. Its role can be performed by an IR motion sensor, or a reed switch. In the first case, the appearance of a moving object emitting thermal energy is recorded, and in the second case, the moment of opening or breaking the door on which the reed switch is installed is determined.

When using reed sensors, if the door is opened, the contacts open/close, which provides power to the sound siren and its activation.

Creating an alarm based on IR sensors involves a few simple steps. First you need to disassemble the motion sensor and remove the spherical element from it, remove the board, to which connect the power supply conductors and the relay winding. This winding replaces the standard sensor relay. To connect the siren, special contact terminals are used. It is taken outside and placed in a hard-to-reach place. The switch for such a homemade alarm is located inside the garage in a secret place. If necessary, several sound-generating devices can be connected to the alarm system, which can operate simultaneously or according to a programmed sequence, regulated by special temporary relay devices.

After completing the installation work, the homemade garage alarm is configured for optimal operation. If the sensors used allow it, then the response sensitivity and duration of the siren operation are adjusted.

Alarm with time relay

Using temporary relays, you can create a simple and reliable alarm system for your garage with your own hands, the circuits and solutions of which can be implemented in two configurations. One of them owns two relays, and the second – one.

In the first case, the relay device has two groups of switching contacts, the operation of which is adjusted with an interval of 5...10 seconds. As a result of the sensor triggering, the sound siren will be activated. The user will have from 5 to 10 seconds to turn it off using a special switch button located in an inaccessible place. If the shutdown does not occur within this time, the second pair of contacts will work, which will ensure a constant sound of the siren until the alarm is completely turned off using a special toggle switch.

During the installation of such an alarm, a movement sensor is located on the door, and at the entrance, a button for arming the alarm is installed. 12 or 24V devices are used as relays.

The disadvantage of this alarm scheme is that the alarm is triggered even before it is turned off using a special button. To eliminate this problem with such a home-made alarm system, another relay is introduced, the switching time of the switching contacts of which is no more than 180 seconds. After this time period has expired, the siren will turn off and remain in this state until it is armed.

"Note!

A do-it-yourself security alarm for a garage can be created using only one time relay. The moment the siren is triggered in this alarm is set using the appropriate relay setting. Such alarms go into standby mode after the power supply circuit is interrupted.”

In the functional diagram of this type of alarm, a thyristor is used, the presence of which increases the level of electrical and fire safety of the created security system. This type of alarm is designed to connect a large number of different sensors. In addition to sound sirens, such a homemade security system may include light bulbs or other light-generating devices that provide an additional effect to attract attention.

How effective are homemade security systems?

A do-it-yourself alarm system is one of the basic means of protection that allows you to attract the attention of neighbors and also exerts a psychological influence on the intruder. It is unlikely that anyone will tinker with a car while the siren is wailing and external lighting devices are flashing.

To provide a higher level of protection, a homemade alarm can be upgraded by improving it for a GSM alarm with your own hands. In this case, not only will scaring signals be sent, but SMS will also be sent to the owner’s numbers about a break-in or entry into the garage.

What tricks do owners resort to to protect their property! Starting from the simplest padlocks the size of a good brick (in the North they even used... wolf traps!) to modern alarm systems with sophisticated electronics. Electronic security is often based on the fact that the criminal will somehow give himself away and send information about his appearance. It could be the sound of footsteps - the electronic “ears” will instantly react and give a signal of danger. There are security systems that respond to human radiation, the spectral composition of which differs sharply from the main background. But the criminal does not sleep, trying to go unnoticed while committing his dirty deeds - special camouflage suits and all sorts of ingenious devices appear.

Meanwhile, there is an absolutely reliable protection system. It is tuned to such a physical field of a person, for which nature itself excludes the possibility of any obstacles. This is the gravitational field that every object that has mass has. Gravity is gravitation (attraction), the universal interaction between any types of physical matter (ordinary matter, any physical fields), as Isaac Newton’s third law says.

This principle formed the basis of the device of the famous inventor Sh. Lifshitz. Gravitational forces are negligible. Let's say, the mutual attraction between two bodies located at a distance of one meter from each other and with each mass of one ton is only about 0.006 g. They can only be observed with the help of bulky devices that are used only in planetariums. The device of Sh. Lifshitz is small, compact, extremely simple to manufacture and ingenious, like everything ingenious. Its basis is a transparent vessel glued together from plexiglass. Inside there is a partition that symmetrically divides it to half the height and goes out. Two tubes with a cross section of 1 square meter are mounted on both sides of the partition. mm. On the sides of the vessel there are two short tubes with taps. All connections of the device are sealed.

The vessel is placed on a table or on a fixed platform. A drop of colored liquid is introduced into the small tubes. Both drops should be at the same level. After this, the vessel is filled with water through short tubes to a level at which the lower part of the partition is completely immersed in the liquid, and a layer of air of 2 - 3 mm remains before the lid of the vessel. The taps are closed and the device is ready for use. If a person now approaches one of its ends, part of the liquid, under the influence of gravitational force, will move from one half of the vessel to the other - to the one to which he approached. And since the movement of liquid in the separated parts of the vessel is associated with the movement of the air layer, the colored drops in the small tubes will also move. Removing a person from the device will cause the opposite effect - a reverse displacement of the droplets. There is a demonstration of the effect of gravity.

If you bring a weight to the device, the drop in the left capillary will rise, and in the right it will fall

Now can you guess where we're going with this? We only need to slightly improve our device so that it automatically gives a signal when a person approaches it. There are many options here. Moving, tinted droplets can block the beam of light and cause the photocell to fire and turn on the siren.

Look at the picture and you will better understand the mechanism of action of such a guard. The device works if it is secured behind an armored safe door or behind a thick concrete wall - there are no obstacles to gravity. In other words, such a security device is the most reliable.

Such a device will automatically sound a signal when a person approaches it.
