However, if you do not want to contact a service center, you can do these simple steps yourself.

How to apply protective film yourself

There are two ways to stick the film on your phone without bubbles: “dry” and “wet”. The first of them is fast and safe, but requires more skill. It also requires clean conditions without dust in the air. The “wet” method is fast, but can pose a threat to the smartphone in inexperienced hands.

Dry method

The dry method is most often used for gluing film. This is the one that is recommended, but it is associated with certain difficulties. Before you stick the film on your phone, you need to choose a clean place. For example, a bathroom is suitable for this: humidity makes the dust heavy, and it does not fly in the air, but lies on the surfaces.

Tools and accessories:

lint-free napkin;

tweezers

windshield wiper

Often, screen film comes with these tools, so you don’t have to look for anything.

How to stick the film dry:

An experienced person (for example, a store or service center employee) can do without tools by gluing the film on the first try. But if this is done for the first time, it’s better to play it safe.

Step-by-step instruction

First you need to prepare your workplace. It is advisable that there is no dust in the room, as it will definitely get on the sticky part of the film, and then you will not be able to do anything. It is advisable to do this in the bathtub so that the room is saturated with moist air, which can be artificially created by turning on the water in the bathroom for a couple of minutes.

To work you will need:

wet wipe;
dry cloth;
a plastic spatula (often included with the film); if not, an ordinary plastic card will do.

It is recommended to glue it to a new, not yet dirty or dusty phone. In order not to make mistakes when gluing the film and not to be subsequently disappointed with the work performed, you must follow the instructions step by step.

Usually, along with the protective film, manufacturers include a special napkin and a plastic spatula, which are useful for gluing the film. If the phone is new, then it already has factory protection, but in most cases it contains brand inscriptions or descriptions of the resources contained in the phone.

These inscriptions interfere with the effective use of the screen, so the factory film must be removed, but do not rush to throw it away, we will need it later.

Installation of protective coating

If, when gluing the film, a small particle of dust gets onto the screen or adhesive layer, an air bubble will form that cannot be expelled. Therefore, before attaching the covering, prepare your work area. Wipe the table from dust and arrange the tools in a convenient order: scissors, napkins, film and spatula.

Prepare the universal film in advance - apply it to the screen and cut off the protruding edges with a stationery knife. If you are careful and are not afraid of scratching the glass, you can run the knife directly along the film, focusing on the border of the display, and if you are not confident in your abilities, trace the glass with a pencil, remove the coating and cut it out on the table.

Cut the film on each side 1mm smaller than the phone display to make gluing easier.

Remove the used film and degrease the display with a damp cloth. Do not use alcohol-based cleaners as they affect the brightness of the picture and leave streaks. A worthy alternative to a napkin is a soap solution prepared in the ratio of 1 drop of shampoo per 20 g of water. After removing streaks and dust, use a dry microfiber cloth to polish the display.

Proceed carefully - separate part of the protective layer to the middle and apply the film to the screen without pressing, and then align it along the top side. The secret to aligning the borders: before peeling off the protective layer, place the film on the screen, align it and secure it with a strip of tape along the side.

Mechanical loads on the glass of a touchscreen are much stronger than on a display without a touchscreen. Glass that is completely scratch-resistant has not yet been invented; replacing a touchscreen is an expensive proposition. It is 100% recommended for everyone to protect the touchscreen from mechanical damage using a protective film. Let's look at how this is done step by step.

Types of films. Surface: mirror, anti-peeping (the image is visible only at a right angle), matte, glossy. From the entire list, we do not recommend mirror and anti-peeping mode, as they degrade the quality and brightness of the image on the display and create discomfort during use. Glossy films are the most inexpensive and are suitable for training if you are gluing for the first time. Matte films are more expensive, but they are also more practical; they do not reflect glare, scratches are not visible (longer service life), and the finger glides more comfortably over the surface of the touchscreen (this is especially noticeable in games). On high-definition displays, matte film adds grain to the image.

The easiest way to work is with a universal film that has markings on it (easy to cut, easy to identify 1,2 protective layers), they are the most common, so they always cost less. It is much more difficult to glue a film cut out to fit a phone model, since a perfect alignment of the film and the touchscreen is required; if the edge of the film goes beyond and does not fit tightly to the display, then it will definitely fall off during use. So, let's start sticking the universal film with markings onto the display.

For work we will need: soap, a lint-free cloth or napkin (for wiping glasses you can buy in optical stores), transparent tape, a stationery knife, a plastic ruler, film. We measure the dimensions of the working part of the display (the part that is most susceptible to mechanical stress) taking into account a 1mm offset from the edges of the case. Based on the size, we cut the film with a knife along a ruler so that the edges of the film are not deformed; there is no need to press too hard with a knife and it is better to cut from the side of 1 layer, since the film will bend towards the display at the point of cutting, it is better to do it several times. Don’t throw away the remaining film; it may be useful for old phones with small displays. We apply the cut film to the device and check that the distance from the edges of the case is at least 1 mm. If necessary, we cut off the excess; cutting off the extra mm along the cells is not a problem. We soap your finger and spread the soap solution on the surface of the screen, then remove the soap solution with a napkin and wipe it dry. The soap solution degreases the surface and is washed off well. We remove the first protective layer on which the mesh is applied. Don’t rush to throw it away, it’s better to slide it across the screen and put it nearby, since it is highly electrified and dust from the screen and dust that flies in the air will stick to it. With both hands we hold the film over the gluing area, align it taking into account the indentations and release it, the film falls onto the screen and sticks (until we smooth out the film). If the film lies crooked, lift the film and try again until the film lies flat (it is important to watch and align all edges at the same time).

When the first protective layer is removed, the film becomes electrified and dust gets on it, which creates air bubbles under the film. It is unlikely that you will be able to stick the film on the first time without dust. Don't worry, the dust can be removed. We take the tape, tear off a piece and glue it to the film from the edge where we found dust and bubbles (they are clearly visible). We pull the tape at a right angle to the film, lift the film and use a second piece of tape to blot the dust under the film (usually the dust sticks to the film, but sometimes it sticks to the screen, so you need to blot the film or screen accordingly). We lower the film back and tear off the tape (slowly pull the tape at an acute angle to the film, you can press the edge of the film to the screen with your finger near the tape). We smooth the film with a napkin and remove the transparent protective layer without a mesh (sometimes it turns out that in the process of getting rid of dust it flies off on its own, don’t be alarmed, continue to remove the dust, lifting the film without a protective layer, it is durable and will not be damaged). The final stage. If the edges that were cut with a knife were deformed (the knife was dull or they were pressed hard), they can be smoothed using a plastic ruler, drawing a straight edge along the edge of the film with slight pressure. The adhesive film is very durable and thin, does not dim the image and does not interfere with your fingers when working with the touchscreen.

Even if you handle the tablet very carefully, after a month or two small scratches will appear on it. The protective film is an important accessory that protects the device from mechanical damage. A new tablet must have a film on it, which must subsequently be replaced.

Many people fail to stick the film onto the device correctly. In most cases, air bubbles form there, and then dust particles enter. As a result of repeated unsuccessful attempts, the purchased film turns into shreds. If you follow some rules, you will be able to avoid such defects. If possible, try to give preference to higher quality films. They cost a little more, but they stick much better than cheap analogues. Make sure that there is not a single speck of dust left on the display - they are the reason for the formation of the hated bubbles. Place the device on a flat and clean surface. Remove the protective film from the packaging. In addition to the main one, there should be two more coatings. Tear off the first one (step1) and turn the film over. It is the adhesive side that needs to be glued to the tablet. Try not to touch this side too much with your fingers and make sure that no particles of dust or lint get there. Adhere the corners of the film to the longer side of the display first. Hold the remaining part with your left hand to prevent it from sticking incorrectly. Take a plastic card in your right hand. Use it to gently smooth out the already glued part. If dust particles land on the surface during work, put the card aside and use paper tape again. Glue it to the desired area. Make sure that there are no air bubbles - the film should lie very tightly. Continue the process until you reach the very bottom. Then look at the resulting result. If the film lays unevenly or you notice defects, you will have to remove it, rinse it well and repeat the process from the very beginning. If you are completely satisfied with the result, peel off the second layer of the main film (step2). Start from any corner and carefully remove it, so as not to tear off the main layer.

If you treat your device very carefully, it will remain in perfect condition for a long time. A device with a high-quality protective film immediately identifies a careful owner. Don't be upset if you can't stick it properly the first time. A few tries and the problem will be solved.

If your phone is not new, even after very intensive cleaning it may still contain dust fluff on its surface. Then it is recommended to use masking tape to remove them - just blot the display with it.

Won't this ruin the iPhone display?

It shouldn't. Or, more precisely, it will spoil it no more than contact with the adhesive layer of protective glass.

I checked with those who filled their smartphones with such liquid a couple of years ago to see if it had damaged the glass. The reviews are the same: when you decide to replace it after six months or several months, you just need to carefully wipe the screen with an alcohol wipe to remove any remaining “sludge.” And that’s it, at least drip again.

Still, I won’t recommend this to everyone, because the effect is unknown, like everything that strange Chinese guys from Aliexpress sell. But so far I have not seen or heard any negative reviews, but I have personally seen the benefits.

Film size

If you use a protective film selected directly for the model of your mobile device, it will perfectly match the parameters and you will not have to perform any additional procedures. However, it happens that it is not possible to purchase original protection. In this case, the factory one will come in handy. You should adjust it to the desired size using scissors or a sharp knife. But it should be noted that the original accessories already have all the holes for the various instrument panels of your device, and you will have to tinker with the rest and cut them yourself.

Determining the bottom of the film

Before you stick the film on your phone, you need to find where the bottom is, so that you can get a general idea of which side to mount where. You can’t take a good photo of yourself, so I asked another person to stick a simple glass on my iPhone 11 Pro Max using a placeholder.

The process is almost the same as the standard: I cleaned the screen with napkins, made sure there was no dust on the screen, peeled off the glass and, without turning the adhesive side up, carefully and quickly plopped it onto the iPhone.

Do you see any air bubbles around the edges? These may be in the center or on one edge due to an imperfection in the protective glass or just a slightly uneven sticker. The filler liquid fights them.

You cut the “dropper”, lift the glued glass by the edge closest to the “bubble” and squeeze out just a little (!) of liquid inside. Stick the glass back:

Thanks to physics, the liquid “flattens” inside the glass, squeezing air bubbles out and filling the empty space. Since it is transparent, then instead of a bubble or next to a dot it will now also be ... “transparent”.

That's all: no bubbles, minimum effort, perfectly laying glass without flaws. Even if a speck of dust or two gets through, the “edges” of air around them will disappear.

And the tube itself is enough for several glasses. Considering that they are mainly sold 10 pieces at a time , such a purchase will last for many years and will help protect a whole string of next generations of iPhone.

Also, it is necessary to glue it onto the phone not flush to the edges; it is recommended to retreat a few millimeters.

Gradually continue to peel back the film and at the same time stick it to the surface of the display, applying slight pressure. If air bubbles appear during gluing, you need to use a plastic card and smooth them out, expelling them on both sides of the screen. It is better to leave tiny bubbles as they are; they will disappear on their own in a couple of days. Now you can remove film number 2.
