But even more worrying is the use of pepper spray by minors - on September 2, a Moscow school student sprayed caustic eye in an educational institution, injuring five children. This is not the first such story. Who is to blame for the fact that children use dangerous special equipment to resolve conflict situations with peers? Of course, adults who themselves set a bad example for the younger generation. On the same day, in the center of Moscow, unknown persons sprayed a stream of pepper gas in the face of a man and stole a large sum of money. A motorist from Yaroslavl used a spray on a minibus driver at the end of summer. The fair sex is not far behind the men: two residents of Vladivostok tried to resolve a mutual conflict, again with the help of pepper gas.

Tear and pepper gas canisters appeared in Russia about 30 years ago. In the dashing nineties, they were quite a popular means of self-defense, due to their affordable price, relative legality and fairly high efficiency. As the situation with street crime in the country improved, the popularity of spray cans waned. But today they are again in demand.

The fashion for a half-forgotten remedy has unexpectedly revived among young people. Particular interest in “gas” is shown by participants in various kinds of protest actions. But they do not use it for self-defense, but, quite the opposite, to attack the police.

— It all started in Europe more than 10 years ago - student rallies, mass football fights. It is assumed that the regular participants in the riots, who felt the effect of the gas first-hand, adopted it from foreign law enforcement officers. First of all, we were talking about the ultra-right and football-related “comrades.” By the way, extremists then began to take an active interest in other special equipment of the security forces—tactical gloves with metal pads, various kinds of batons, including those prohibited for civilian use,” says an operative involved in the fight against extremists.

In Russia, gas canisters began to be used against law enforcement officers by participants in street protests in Moscow in 2011–2013. Cases of gas spraying were recorded on Bolotnaya Square, Sakharov Avenue, Chistoprudny Boulevard and other areas of the city.

For example, on Pushkinskaya Square, the use of gas by one of the troublemakers caused an eye burn for an employee of the Russian Guard, Rossiyskaya Gazeta wrote.

— The use of gas during protests is a signature of neo-Nazi organizations. Now in Russia they are being fought quite effectively, but in neighboring European countries, on the contrary, the Nazi movement is flourishing. I warn you right away that the option described below has not yet been used in practice. Very often, the apartments of neighbors living on different floors are connected by a ventilation shaft. Typically, such shafts are made in the kitchen and bathroom. In this regard, the idea of using this “secret” passage to the neighbors is immediately born. If you use pepper spray by simply spraying it into the ventilation shaft, the result, of course, will be zero. But the process can be seriously improved in the following way. 1) Measure the height of your ceiling. 2) We take somewhere a piece of modern plastic plinth of suitable length. These skirting boards have a long and narrow U-shaped liner for routing wiring. Let's take out this insert. 3) Take a roll of adhesive tape and glue the missing wall of the U-shaped liner. The result is a long tube that is both quite rigid and quite flexible (unlike tubes from IVs). 4) We make the end of the tube that will be supplied to neighbors with a narrowed end so that the gas flow rate in this place is maximum. In addition, the tip of the tube in this place should be directed perpendicularly so that the outgoing stream does not go up, but at an angle (straight into the ventilation of the neighbors). All this can be done using the same adhesive tape. 5) It is not yet entirely clear how to attach the can to the tube so that the gases do not escape in the wrong place, but I am sure that this problem can be solved depending on the circumstances. For example, the can can be placed in a plastic bag without holes. Attach the edges of the bag to the tube with adhesive tape, and press the button on the canister already in the bag. 6) If the neighbor lives upstairs, then carefully push our tube up the ventilation (through the grid cell on the ventilation). The upper end of the tube will rest against the rear wall of the ventilation shaft. If the length of the tube is equal to the height of the ceiling (and this is its usual length of 2.5-3 m), then we stop when we have in our hands a piece of tube of such length that its upper end does not reach the neighbor’s ventilation about 15 centimeters (in this case, the neighbor has nothing it will be seen). 7) We wait for a windless day so that there is no “breathing” in the ventilation. Then we release the gases. They should be started slowly, but for a long time (10-15 minutes). It is better to separate the moments of time when the tube is installed and when gases are released. If screams start from above, there is no need to remove the handset immediately (it’s not visible anyway) so as not to create noise.

“One community, which has a reputation for being right-wing, even conducts free classes for women where they teach how to handle gas canisters,” an expert on the market of self-defense and tactical knives, who wished to remain anonymous, told Izvestia. According to him, today cans have stepped forward in terms of quality.

— If previously a person spraying an aerosol himself found himself in the affected area, today the distance has increased. The working distance is 1.5 m. Some and the efficiency of use are over 3 m. But such use requires practice. In German online stores, for example, for an additional €2 to the cost of a gas cylinder they will send a trainer - a cylinder with a safe liquid for training, says the interlocutor. There are even training grounds for practicing gas spraying skills on mannequins.

— Usually they buy together, so they can negotiate free delivery. Such a cylinder costs 350 rubles. This is relatively little money, says a market expert.

Of course, some of the owners of spray cans are respectable citizens who are trying to protect themselves from trouble. But current police statistics clearly indicate that more and more buyers are acquiring spray cans for completely different purposes.

— We come across instructions from closed neo-Nazi forums. Their authors urge you not to carry knives or brass knuckles, but to use aerosols. The police are powerless in the face of such objects; they cannot be sent to a criminologist for examination, unlike a knife. The cylinder is inexpensive, they’ll take it away and that’s fine,” says an expert on extremism. He notes that today, due to active propaganda on social networks, more and more teenagers are picking up pepper sprays and using them against others simply to vent aggression.

Of course, this is not exactly pepper spray, but rather pepper spray. Which you can use for self-defense. You can buy one ready-made, but if you don’t have the opportunity or the price is too high, you can make pepper spray yourself.

Isopropyl alcohol.
Sunflower oil.
Two small containers.

Open the package of pepper and add about one tablespoon. I poured in a heaping spoonful.

Take alcohol and add it to the pepper. The bloom is about 1 centimeter higher than the pepper.

Stir it all until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Leave the mixture for an hour so that the pepper is soaked in alcohol. It’s better to leave the mixture overnight so that it becomes a nuclear mixture.

Then add vegetable oil. Approximately 1-2 tablespoons. Stir the mixture for 1-2 minutes.

We take coffee filters and filter the mixture through them. After filtration, you will get a homogeneous liquid without any spice.

Almost everything is ready. Pour the resulting liquid into a perfume bottle.

You now have a fully effective pepper spray! This composition really works! Precautionary measures: If during the mixing process liquid gets on your hands, you cannot simply wipe it off with a towel, since after a while your hand will still start to burn. And if you accidentally rub your eyes, it will be a nightmare. So be sure to wash your hands with soap. And if the solution immediately gets into your eyes, rinse with plenty of water. In principle, the spray does not cause any particular harm to health, but it should still be used carefully. Only you are responsible for all your actions. Afterword.
