The advantages of crafts for the New Year in the form of a clock are obvious: beautiful, simple and fast. All mothers are very familiar with that same feeling of despair when a child who has already been put to bed remembers that in the morning they need to bring a New Year's craft to school or kindergarten.
A homemade watch can become an original decor for a New Year's interior or even gift packaging for sweets. The main thing is to act quickly and add more decor.
The easiest and fastest option
When, if not on the New Year, is it worth thinking about missed opportunities? Moreover, the clock is a symbol of the winter holiday. It’s not for nothing that in the USSR, in addition to fir branches, clocks were also depicted on all New Year’s cards.

For an older child, you can make a functional model with a working clock mechanism. These watches can also be used as a decorative item.
Materials for work
To make a clock out of cardboard so that the hands rotate, prepare the following materials for work:
- Thick cardboard. You can also use a sheet of corrugated cardboard, for example, from a box or crate.
- Multi-colored yogurt (vitamin) caps or large buttons.
- Compass.
- PVA glue.
- Clock mechanism with hands from any cheap version of quartz watches.
The manufacturing process is as follows:
- Prepare a sheet of thick cardboard and place colorful caps on it to get an idea of what the size of the future watch should be.
- Cut out a base circle from cardboard.
- Using an angled ruler, mark based on the location of the caps.
- Glue the caps (buttons) to the base at an equal distance from the center and each other.
Important! To glue plastic parts, you can use a hot glue gun or PVA glue.
- Write numbers indicating time on the lids with a marker. If the material of the parts allows, then you can use acrylic paint.
- Make a hole in the center of the circle.
- Install the clock mechanism on the back wall of the clock and screw in the hands.
- Insert the battery into the clock and set the time.
Important! The edges of the circle can be outlined with a colored or black marker. You can glue a cardboard circle with a number in the center of each cap, rather than applying it to the part with a marker or paint.

Glue cardboard snowflakes, gears and bolts onto the surface of the clock in several layers so that they partially overlap each other, forming a beautiful pattern. Then paint the arrangement with gold or silver spray paint.

New Year's dough craft
Children will love sweet cookies made with food coloring in the shape of a New Year's clock. Bake it from shortcrust or barely sweetened unleavened dough with your baby. Watches made from scrap materials

These ideas should not be copied literally, but used only as hints. For example, instead of a lid, an excellent case for a watch could be a frying pan with a handle or an old vinyl record.
Coffee clock
Coffee beans are a favorite material for making various crafts among craftsmen. They can also be used to decorate watches. They are especially appropriate in the kitchen, as they will not only show the time, but also exude a magical aroma.
It is not necessary to make a watch with your own hands; you can use existing ones, and just decorate them with coffee beans, sticking them directly on the dial or on the bezel of the case. - You can make a DIY kitchen wall clock from a thin cut of wood (see also the article about). It just needs to be sanded, varnished or stained and a hole drilled for attaching the hands.
- Remember the old cuckoo clocks that used to hang in almost every village house? Their likeness can be made from wooden planks and decorated with salt dough figures.
- Another interesting idea that your children or grandchildren will love. Cut a circle from thick plywood, and drill 12 thin holes at its end at equal intervals.
